Diseases - how to identify and cure?

my first ever character got a disease and is slowly dying... i was wondering how to identify the disease, the best methods to get a cure, or, worst case scenario, how inheritance works...

Sky_Cardis's way of curring diseases is wasteful and inefficient. If you are using the correct cure there is around a 50% chance of being cured for each dose you take, but every time you take the wrong cure it reduces the chance of the right one working, down to around 10%, so its best too actually figure out what the right cure is and just use a few does of it.
