did something happen overnight?

this is my 5th day in game, and i logged in and all of a sudden there are ferns, grass, cactus everywhere. singing logs are stacks of 10, new items everywhere...

but i cant find any information on an update, is this normal, an update, do they not announce updates and such? just curious

edit: it also appears i am finding WAY WAY less (read none in the last 30 min) indian feathers and arrowheads...

i saw the post at the top but dismissed it as i did not notice it was an update or posted this morning...
