A few thoughts on reeds..

Postby Roberto » Wed Apr 22, 2015 5:38 pm

There are plenty of reeds around so why not a few more uses?

Reed fishing trap: Could require a few woven reeds mixed with fibre or single reeds for a smaller fishing trap. Shrink the internal size to something like 2x3 or so and have them wear with use.

Indian breastplate: Torso piece that could possibly be made with sturdy reeds and/or twigs. Could use fibres for bindings.

Reed of punishment(Rule of thumb): Have some way to process sturdy reed/s into an item functioning much like the whip.

Last thing that comes to mind at the moment is use as another plant fibre. Be it either by simple splitting or boiling then splitting.

Woven reeds do count as plant fibres though, do they not? I distinctly remember using them to build new haystacks. So that would mean you can just make a normal fishing trap out of them too, albeit of null purity.

A few more uses would be nice indeed though, we're halfway between savages and barely civilized people, need to utilize all we can xD

I would love to see some sort of woven reed wall, purely for deoration. I would certianly like to see some sort of reed based wallpaper.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Thank you for pointing out that woven reeds could be used as plant fibre, I hadn't noticed.

This.

Also I kind of like the OP's idea of a reed of punishment, maybe you could use a sturdy reed just one time before it breaks.
