Somebody decided to do something that the server was not expecting while being constricted by a Questzalcoatl. Because of this they managed to put their character in an awkward 'state'. Because at the point of crashing there is a character who appears to be in a 'state' in which the server doesn't like to recognize it has 'crashed' while exporting all the data to be rebooted. The 'problem' with this type of thing is when the server crashes during the 'terminate' functions all the 'data' at the point of crash goes into limbo. I am then left with two options.

#1: Restore the integrity of the data (typically comparatively time consuming and difficult)

#2: Do a character and map tile restore from backups (rolling back all characters and maps 2-6 hours).

I hate to do it given that we were having record breaking population numbers, HOWEVER, I do think it is the best thing that we wait until business hours tomorrow (~8 hours) and allow the integrity of the data to be salvaged. If for any reason I am able to get it up and running before that I will certainly let you know but for now that seems to be the state of things.

As always, we are down for 8+ hours I will see about post-mastering y'all a gift for the downtime.

:( :( :( :( :(

I rather we have downtime then have people lose their progress, just throwing in my two cents but with the influx of players recently we don't want them thinking the game rolls back every time there is a crash.

Agreed! If it can be saved, take the time.

Wil it take 2-6 hours, or will it roll-back 2-6 hours ?

Either way, I know people that have been working that ass off the last hours. Not me, cuz I am always lazy. However for those people it would be hell to do it all over.

It could indeed roll back 2-6 hours which is why we made the decision to invest the time in protecting the integrity of the data.

Normally I would point towards a roll-back simply because its easier and the last (6) hours the server was relatively inactive I think.

In this case tho, I have been talking with people who have been working their asses off for the last ~ 12 hours. I myself luckly have never had something simular occur, however thinking about that would already make me cry a big time.

Guys seriously stop derailing to a point where it becomes HoB. I just went through two pages looking for a update from john. Please don't post unless you have legitimate information on what you did to ruin everyone else's fun or asking real questions to the devs about the status. For current issues please check the extended down time threads.

I've sat through long rollbacks and restores before. Professionally people want you to save as much data as possible. It's a massive pain in the ass either way.
