About Mannequins

Postby Argentis » Mon Apr 06, 2015 5:14 pm

Dear Salemites,

I am grateful for our gods to have introduced to us the usage of mannequins. However I feel like they don't work very well in the context of Salem and could use some improvements. Let me explain:

Why using Mannequins?
With the introduction of more and more sets needed to perform various tasks, it was an important improvement that to allow Salemites to quickly change sets so as not to waste time between various activities.

Yet what is wrong with Mannequins?
It is currently faster to use mannequins than to strip naked and to jump in your new set. However there are many problems that makes it only so by a thin margin. First off the problem of the toolbelt. You have to remove all tools from your toolbelt in order to wear the set on the mannequins. And as you probably want to wear your toolbelt if it's a working set then you have to strip off the tool belt too. Then the issue of masks. I understand that the executionner's mask has a slot. However it's a rare mask and most people don't have one. As Mannequins should be primarily used to quickly exchange slotted clothing and as most masks don't have slots it shouldn't exchange masks unless you specify it. Same apply for the tools you hold in your hands which can be a pain to retrieve and that you may think you have lost.

What could be done to improve Mannequins?
As a quick fix you could make it so they won't attempt to swap masks, toolbelts and items in your hands.
As a more permanent solution, I advise a flower menu when right clicking on a mannequin with the options: Swap clothing and Arrange clothing. The arrange clothing would allow you to place the clothing you want to swap with As well as greying out the slots you never wish to swap with. For example you could grey out the mask slot and this mannequin will not try to swap with the mask. This would allow for a major gain time while at the minimal cost of a flower menu.

Thank you for reading this and I hope this will start a discussion on mannequins. Do you agree with my idea? Do you think Mannequins are good as they are? Do you have another idea? All thoughts are welcome as long as they advance the discussion. I would like it very much if one of our gods could comment on this.

Sincerely,
Tynendir Endeniel.

That is nowhere near a quick fix. But I agree toolbelts are less than ideal to deal with.

IMO it'd be best if we could lock any clothing slots on the equipment screen, and using a mannequin wouldn't swap those slots.

The mannequins to me are nice, but seem to be unfinished and im sure as time goes on they will be polished off. In the future i would suspect that they would let us have a flower menu to equip or inspect them with a mock equipment window where we can put clothes/items on them or disable slots so it wouldn't strip me of my necklace mask and backpack. The tool belt/backpack part i assume is just a bug atm.

This sounds reasonable, but fairly far from simple.

You could always have extra toolbelts and masks if you're too lazy to remove them from your equipped items

Only issue ive had so far was with canoes coming off of them

This. Came close to losing a canoe to my house's void because my mannequin was too close to the wall :(
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
