mining levels

Hi,

How do I find or create a new level within a mine? I have a large space supported by 6 mining posts, I have lit fires with piles of sticks all over the place trying to locate a place where I can dig to the next level with no luck.

Do I need to douse some more within the mine?

How do I get to a new level?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just mine the hard rocks after you've softened them using fire. Eventually one of them will spawn a way down to the next level.

Again I don't understand, there are no hard rocks, I am just mining chunks out of the walls. I don't set fires to make the walls soft, I was setting fires to try and find a way down. Is this the correct strategy?

The hard rocks are the darker-looking ones. If you've ended up in a mine with only soft walls, you'll have to mine those out until you hit some darker-looking ones. Then put a fire beneath them to soften them, and mine them out once they're softened, and they'll have a chance to spawn a way down,

i have access to more than 1 mine and all of them seem to have "soft" walls. Are there actually "Hard" walls or am I searching for nothing?

You just have to keep searching. People sometimes mine a few hundreds of tiles until they find hard rock node

And hundreds of tiles is nothing actually. On lower levels you will have to mine thousands of both hard and soft tiles to find a cave down.
