I think this would change the game for the better. At the very least they should isolate Providence from the rest of the map, so there's no longer raid central where all the newbs settle because they don't know any better.

Or they could just make things like metal and cloth (things you wanna sell) a lot heavier, so unless your willing to port back and forth hundreds of times with one piece of cloth, iron etc, you'd have to load them into a wagon and use a horse to get them to providence or the nearest town too you. This would give an incentive to sell at other towns apart from providence as it will most likely be the furthest from your base. Also let big towns have market stalls and the regular ones.

I Also think you should be able to use salt (which I think is how you destroy peoples fields) to salt the ground, 1 salt 1 tile. This could be use to make small crude roads that would give a small speed boost, and stone could be use to make cobbled roads (different/more expensive that the regular stone paved tile). These could provide the biggest speed boost in the game.
I think I have a hat problem.

I want roaming packs of buffalo that destroy walls and buildings that we have to work as a server to destroy :)

(another "that would be interesting" but I wouldn't pose it as an idea)
