Edit: Chatted with JC a little bit. Don't think diseases will be an issue come the next patch.

I believe the solution is much more complex than that. It just doesn't look right for me that some people are completely immune to diseases as long as they stay low on biles.
I also think the tutorial can make it look fun. You give them everything in the tutorial, then at the end some thugs knocked them out, take all of the money, memory (skills), and leave them on the beach naked, diseased. A pop up appear: "welcome to the New World. Now what do you do?"

. There are many villages to burn and newbies around Providence to murder. Just recently, four of the five forts near my village have been ravaged, including one belonging to one of my own peops. The new mechanics won't get in the way of pillaging. Hunting season is still on in Salem, ladies and gents!

Just in case you didn't see above, I chatted with JC a bit and I think you're correct; diseases should be worthwhile in the end ;D.
