as someone with a proud history of redneckery and not a stranger to splitting wood i must agree that axe is a piece of crap.

Hell, i don't think my cleaving axe (don't know the correct term in english, in dutch it's a kliefbijl) was ever sharpened. Just make sure it weighs as much as you can comfortably lift above your head in a swing and you should be able to split pretty much anything you can lift in the first place :)

I love all these sharp edges and percentages. You lumberjack nerds! The most fun I had as a kid and having to chop wood was finding the lizards. It was always the best part! Also, there is nothing like baking a potato in the ashes! Good stuff.

Brings back memories :) My grandma's hatchet was never sharpened. It was all rusty and heavy as I remember ....

Forged iron is the best kind, if it's made by a local blacksmith back then it can last for a multiple lifetimes if taken care off. Show some love to it.
