How would this Change Salem?

Postby Heffernan » Wed Mar 18, 2015 2:16 am

Hey, just had a funny Situation in my head, its NOT an idea or anything (dont even think about it JC, i know where u live), but wanna discuss what u think would happen.

how would Salem change if they took out porting home and made horses cheaper and you had to walk/ride to your leanto/base from boston everytime u visit it.

i think it might work if they added mass storage horses or anything.

what do ya think?

Wouldn't be so bad since i have a base near every travel point that's like a 10 minute walk and fortified to the teeth.

Yes, if and only if items spawned more often and rares more common the further away from town you live.

Meaning the players who live the furthest away get them nice 7 use inspritionals alot more often.

game would be exactly like it is now except there would be no central hub for events, trade or socializing.

there should be desireable tools/items/furniture that have to be carried to facilitate ground traffic, eliminating 10 features however to bolster one does not seem wise.

I would love that, but then we need to have another way for trading and events. Too much I think.
Except if there will be a "all road leads to Rome" kind of road system.
The only thing I like about Wurm Online is that kind of road system.

It would force people that want to work together or trade to live in the same area rather than being spread out over the map.

Which won't last long.
Beside, it is more natural that way. Human want to stick together. Then Towns, Cities, Trading hubs... I see no problem with that.
There will always be people who wan't to be alone just for that "Frontier" feeling.

As someone who doesn't really participate in the events all that often, save for the occasional dock club, I would much rather have that somewhat 'isolated' feeling I had in Haven and Hearth. Salem, to me, is a far superior game, but that particular aspect I miss from it. It'd be neat if there were instead multiple towns/hubs around the world that have most of the basics you can find in Providence, each an hour walking distance apart. These towns/hubs could have Westward Wallace NPCs in them that could then take you to Providence if you wanted to go. You'd have people going back and forth between these hubs, thus making sure people can't just camp in their forts the whole game, allow stuff like highway robbing to take place, public mapping and road building projects, and you'd have people who wish to feel isolated be able to. If you really like going to Providence then you can simply live nearer to the hubs. With the new inventory, I think it'd be pretty cool and not that inconvenient, to be honest.

Or, an alternative idea, if there's an event in Providence, the admins could simply turn on the teleportation option for a limited time and turn it off when the events are done.

Nice! we can get rid of "Prov robbers" who port to Providence and do crime far away from their house, and get to keep the events!
