"You cannot travel right now"

Basically every single time i try to travel i get this error message. I'm a veteran salem player, logged in a month ago, logged in a few days ago then after, lost all my stuff, and couldn't teleport! Knowing most of the map in my head, I had no problem walking 4 hours to providence hoping that I could teleport from there to my homestead. Nope. Went to the top end of the world, made myself a new homestead up there somewhere, hoped I could teleport from it to Providence, yet again the same message, "You cannot travel right now" . Now, since I haven't played for a few months and I came back to the game solely for the new content which has me excited, I might just probably be a ******* who's missing something very clear. Like, it might not actually be possible to travel for a few days for some reason now? Or I got something toggled on which is giving me the error message. Either way, Id appreciate some help, cheers

If you do crime, no travel.
Check your backpack by right clicking it, now it is a separate inventory. Empty it if necessary.
If you did crime, run as far as you can from the place, the crime debuff will go away, then port to Providence.

It should give a different message and I should have a debuff saying I've done some nasty **** as I recall. Plus as I stated, haven't done anything but walk since i logged in, and before that I haven't played for 6-7 months :p

My bag is full of ****, but that doesn't mean anything when I'm standing on my homestead, I should be able to teleport to Providence from that exact location. Tried teleporting with empty bags too, gave me "You cannot travel at this time". While I'm away from travel locations, it actually gives me real reasons as to why i cannot travel like "Can only travel with empty inventory or homestead", but as soon as i'm eligable for traveling it just doesn't allow me without a clear message as to why :/

Don't have a backpack, basically a naked 500 stat walking around the forests with all his stats deleted

Yup, that was it. Wasn't aware of that mechanic, makes sense tho
Does the "Pockets" skill remove this mechanic ?

H he problem solved. The "packrat" skill tree will help with carrying more, somewhat negate that thing.
Backpack decrease weight 70 percent or something, so put heavy stuff in it.

We generally don't delete threads at request. Someone else might have the same question and find this thread answering that question in a search.

More to subject, it might be worth asking for a clearer error message in game for failure to teleport from certain status effects, such as crime debuff, carrying inventory in bags when not at your homestead or in Providence, etc. JC has been asking for things that would make the game friendlier to new players, and this could be one thing to be added.
