Overall this was a very nice write up. Thank you for taking the time to do so. However, to address your closing statement. There will never be a crime free server, and there will never be a "Noobie protection". In the end you failed at working hard enough to gather the wrought iron bars necessary to make the braziers. You failed to have enough coal to use the new systems, and you failed to join a town that could have done all the protection for you. Your multitude of failures resulted in you being robbed and I will not tailor the game to allow you a better experience amidst those failures.

Now there is an argument that perhaps there should be a defensive structure before torchposts, or after them, to allow for more 'protection' before braziers. But I'm not convinced at this moment that it is necessary.

Sorry to see you getting let down. I hope you have another go and focus on one activity that you love the most. Gathering items is not the onlything you would want to do and personally the last thing I want to do. So dont feel bad!
point 2 could have been prevented by reading some more. I think wiki told you that you will be resurrected. Point 3 is somewhat vague as I have never seen JC hiding noob information. More like high end town stuff and mostly witch things.
you also seem to trust noone. I know trusting TOO MUCH is bad but really dude, this is still a MMO. You gotta risk it a bit! Mostly good reputation trader and girls wont harm you, why dont you try that first? I dont want to join town also as I sont want to get too involved but trusting people is fine with me.
the trading system? It is perfect imo. The thrill and satisfaction after a complete honest trade is so good that I keep on trading just to know that I do have good reputation.
hope you chill out and find the thing you like the most about salem and focus on it now. Even thoug you claimed to love challenge I still cant help to think that you are not having a strong enough mind to offset the challenges themselves.
good luck dude.
You thought I quit.

John what is a good defence? no one knows that, until he gets robed and quits the information may be somewhere but shattered all over the place.
Should i build three levels of wall three locked gates, and double sets of braziers covered with trees + of course a town clime so that no one can cancel my personal clime.
Or can i just take the most valuable items into back pack and log out in town? will that work or will someone summon me whan offline and pick pocket?

Im not complaining i understand your point. But you asked " A noob is going to quit when....."
And my answer is when he gets robbed and can't prevent it in ANY way thats no fun.

I hope that this guid pistolshrimp is making "how even noobs can protect themselves" will save some lives.

example from : Mine your own business thread
New mining system... i know i could now look for gems i rubble and that i need mineral sifting skill that's in announcement
but what skill do you need to learn mineral sifting? The answer is in the thread but you need to look for someone with the same problem who asked...

Thats a new skill so ok, but some skill requirement change and no body knows until they look at 2 wiki pages and notice it
also things like this:
"Post By JohnCarver » Mon Feb 09, 2015 6:46 am
The amount of iron yields in the ore smelters has indeed changed."

Ok you wont us to figure out yourself how finery forge or ore smelter works. Exploring is fun yes.
But if i'm completely new player who doesnt know that wiki is outdated it will be a little confusing when i do everything the way wiki says and still get different result.
How to solve this problem put a hit in announcement that "ore smelters has indeed changed" so that someone taking care of wiki can mark that.

The other thing is trust when trading.
Trust and risk are 2 totally different things.
Trusting is giving someone a way to harm you and hoping they wont use it.
Smart person will try to limit his openings to minimum, "no one can harm me if i dont let them".

Taking risk from time to time is ok sometime you gain sometime you loose,
i have also traded in this game but but as you said only with good reputation traders (girls lol no).
Uncontrolled risk is killing the fun for me.

Have you considered building torchposts instead of braziers?

Also if you get robbed heavily once. Move.

The thing about trading is you can spend alot of time and effort to get a player stall where trading is safe.

Everything takes just a bit more effort and you will not have to worry about getting scammed etc. (Iron bars, nails & whatever else you may require are found in the NPC stalls.)

I agree on the points that the wiki is down and poorly updated and that important info is scattered around. However you did something most newbies that quit do not.

YOU came to the forums and read/posted about it. You shouldnt quit.

And speaking of towns and such. You do not need to be part of a town. You could make a deal with them and theyd give some assistance/info for some help from you etc. Its a sandbox game after all.

By the time your making triple walls and messing with a finery forge, your not really a noob anymore and should be able to read the wiki and ask other players. If you wish to play alone and not associate with other players.. Then good luck, you'll need it

Also if you play a game with warnings all over "PVP permadeath full loot" and quit after getting robbed, isn't that like quitting call of duty because you got shot?

The answer is No. Its not the same.
Getting shot in CoD you loose 5 sec to respawn.
In this game you lose hours of your hard work...
Most people play games for fun. I have seen employment thats easier and more fun than playing some games including Salem and i'm not even getting paid for playing it!!!

Also remember its not my personal threat to cry!!!
I didnt quit and than come to forum to cry about it. I was lurking on it entire time i was playing the game.

Now i see thread thats cloase to my heart so i replay.
I also came up with small things that may or may not improve what i had problems with:
1.Inspirationals could update their cost i didnt notice that first dead wartbite cricket cost 2300 secound 3450 4600 and so on until runed out of inspiration.
2.There is an information in game help menu that tells you about KO status but only after you get KO'd first time, that's scary it should be there from the start so that everyone knows rabbit can't kill them.
3.Shovel could have construction information on how to use it the same as some other tools to (press ctrl left click to flatten the ground)
4.Trading system where both sides see what they get and can accept canncle.

Dont know how to solve the defence problem, maybe this new guid will let people know how crime works and how to protect yourself.
5.Now some fantasy. A skill that lets you bury a treasure chest. Something small 2 item slots. So that i can bury my money in ground leaving no signs anyone can find it by luck but as long as no one digit at random id have a container where i could store the most valuable items.

But we do have warning, yes? You stated before you don't like easy games, so if it's like a 2nd job it's not worth playing. Honestly.
I agree with a pop up after the first time you are KO'd. Similar to the Darkness one it good enough, so at least you have something to read while lying there. I still don't agree on safe trade. I like the treasure chest as long as the owner need a map to locate it. So people can rob you and get that thing. The inspiration thing, yes, and btw we need HUGE information on that. It is worth it, new players are confused by that thing. We all did as noob.
You thought I quit.

I'd just like to say, this is an "A noob is going to quit when..." thread, not a harass a noob for not playing right, we should look at his response and see what we can do to prevent people from making mistakes the same way he did, not give him guff about it, at least not here.
