Well making coal is fairly easy. It is the finarys consumption/burntime that could be adjusted a tiny bit.

And we could still use something to store all that coal, even with decent s&e an average coal clamp is not very efficient space-wise, and the coal consumption just went through the roof with the last patch.
If you want to make wrought iron efficiently, you need to do a lot of it in one session, which needs tons of coal, therefore I suggest again:

Coal bunkers!
Should be roughly like sheds, regarding mats cost, size and not being moveable, but store only coal, and loads of it.

I wonder if this could be accomplished with an a knockout alt since out inventories are so big now?

I used my finery forge once and thought it was quite fun. I made half a dozen wrought iron by myself (without an alt), which just means that I wasted some coal compared to waiting for a friend to log on. It seems like a well balanced mechanic; encourages cooperation, but possible by yourself. (Well done devs! :D) So much better than fishing...

I like that it encourages cooperating, doing such things with others is much more fun than doing that alone. I understand why hermits might get upset with this mechanic forcing them to look for a group, since I'm not very social myself, but it is not entirely impossible to do that alone, just harder, like everything else. What I do not like about the whole thing is that so many things now require wrought iron, especially sheds. Containers always were one of the biggest issues in this game and I expected them to follow same direction as inventory did - getting easier to build. Right now the only balanced container is chest (thank you for fixing it's hitbox), cupboards are grossly overpriced, even with craftable glass, sheds were almost there, but slightly too expensive, now more so, at noob stage you are filling crates faster than you can build them. I hope there are some changes to come in this area, because "I don't have space to store that" is one of the most discouraging feelings in salem.

^ This did myself wrought today and its fun, challenging but not retardly hard for hermit to make it alone, one of the best changes so far if i can tell.
And if you have problem with charcoal imo one of the most easy obtainable resource to make and maintain you sir should consider finding another game because this one is not suitable for you. Seriously making coal is just chopping tree, light it and wait, nothing more.

ok so from what i understand people are whining about having to work together whne you really done i sell iron product lower than most and there is a guy on the forum that even sell wroght iron for 200 silver which in my mind is very very cheap if you thnk about 200 silver is what 7 savage charms i find that just from walking around my town walls. people need to either work with other people even if its only like 1 other person or 2 other people this game is ment to be played with others.

i love the whole new mining system with the new ores and hards smelting process just wish people would be thankful that they have a game that they dont have to pay a cent towards to be able to do everything, and to the people that dont like this post you all no were ya can go

I tried making wrought iron just once so far. I used 2 chars and my girlfriend used 1, so we were 3. In about 1 hour, maybe less, we made 24 wrought iron, burning like 300-350 coal in total, that we had stored on our chars, and in some chests. Our strategy can be improved to use less coal. It was very very fun, brought back the adrenaline rush from fighting deer with a 20 bile char and almost no gear:)

The coal consumption could be a bit lower, but it isn't that bad now either. I play a few hours in the evening, and at this rate, I can make 50 pig iron bars in 3 days, in this time also having coal clamps burning and trees growing. I think you can make 2-3 clamps from one tree, and you'd need around 10-15 clamps to make enough coal for 50 bars (depends on S&E). Each 3-4 days I plan to make a session of wrought iron forging. I'd say it's quite a balanced process since the things that now require wrought iron, use less iron than the previous versions (like braziers). I am sure the well developed towns can produce much more than this and maybe in time, the price will drop.

I do indeed like the new system. My main concern would be that after a while it will get tedious. Maybe the devs should add a RNG item drop or something to compensate the tediousness? Or a bonus for being super on timing which would favorize big groups making wrought iron (one character at each bellows).

I think the bonus on a good timing and strategy is already the coal savings and the amount of wrought iron you can produce. the idea of another bonus is nice, but not that realistic. Or maybe it's just me, I was very satisfied with how my first attempt went.
