I admire people who make an effort, so that the most mundane things could become special.
Even if it's just for a fleeting moment.

I stumbled across that little claim with the naked lady. Gate was bashed in and claim was dead. Ate some cabbage cakes out of the oven. Thanks for the road food naked lady.

I could stock the criminal for you if you'd like, or provide the funds so you can do it yourself. I'll also lend you my whip!
Don't let the harsh wilderness stop your justice!

Hello everyone,
As you would have known after two attempts to track down the thief, I have been KO’ed on both attempts and lost pretty much the little things I have left. But nowhere do I feel sad. In fact, I was quite happy :D. The reason being that during my journey, I received an awful lot of supports from players, accomplished ones and fellow poor farmers alike, both by words and real offers.
Though people are against Asian Immigrant in 1700s ¦]
Anyhow, I would like to share all of the letters I received from my fellow carebears: (If you wish to be removed from this post, I will happily do so, and I apologize)
Argentis, the French gentleman, offer me citizenship of his version of Quebec city ¦]
Argentis wrote:Hello,
I just saw that you got robbed. I am sorry for you. I was personally quite interested in your adventure and I do hope that you will find this filthy thief.
I also saw that you were thinking of moving out. I recently founded the town of Endenia's Jewel and we seek brave young souls like yourselves. If you need protection we may be able to provide it for you (or at least I, as the others are still young sprouts dreaming of being the tallest trees in the forest, just like you are I would presume). I've started building the town for a bit more than a week now so we do not have the best infrastructure around but we do have pioneering spirit.
Are you able to come on the Ventrilo Chat Server so we could discuss?
Even if you choose not to join us you may wish to give that server a chance as it provides great opportunity for the survivors and hermits of this world.
Best regards,
Tynendir Endeniel.

Thank you Argentis, and with the new mining patch, I hope your town would live up to its name, with a keep full of big jewels and precious metal bars.
After the intended crash by the king to keep his thief fellow men protected, I received more support from Murphy the Banned Bro:
Murphy wrote:On this regard, I sure hope you keep tracking. I'm so sorry the server crashed! Not that it's my fault! ¦] (it really was not me), but please do keep your story up!
If you're interested in joining a growing group of both peaceful farmers and not so peaceful, let's call them foragers, feel free to PM me and we can work something out.
Good luck on all your future journeys!

Thank you Murphy and I wish you luck on your foraging. Though it is harder nowadays.
Later on, after hearing me complain about my unfortunate life and the lack of a canoe, he offer me one. That would be great to have a canoe, but taking it for free from other is not my way. Thank you a lot for your care though!
Murphy wrote:I know you're on the road already
but uh, yeah, I could've thought of this before
I have a canoe
want it?
might be worth it trying to go from Providence anyway.

Not only the riches have time for justice and charity. I can see my fellow farmer are just as generous. This is from RedVIII the farmer:
RedVIII wrote:If you have an alt character which can go to providence, I will give to you a rope, even if it don't reach you while in the track of the thief. Canoe is still too much for me, I can't make it yet (I can, but don't have the resources).

Thank you RedVIII, I did make one on the way with a hilariously placed loom out of nowhere.
And Kralith the Returned soul:
Kralith wrote:Then let us donate you.
I don't have much silver, because I’ve start playing again after long time break (after the destruction of my entire noob base on Plymouth one and a half year ago).
But I would give you some of my silver for the justice!
You are great, and I wish I would have been like you at that time I was robbed.

Your generosity has come a long way! I feel much more empowered after hearing you.
Sadly enough, as we all know the thief is much likely staying deep inside the unseen, unlivable Darkness, where dwelling day by day the worst of the men and creatures. I have heard stories about diseased rats and strange creatures such as winged deer, moving trees, three-headed turkeys and much, much more. I also heard that the wicked witches are hiding deep inside the dark swamps. The air is so thick that I passed out the moment I set my foot into the Unknown. A weak and beaten soul like me can never reach the end of the journey, as confirmed by an able detective, which lies deep inside of it.
But amongst the peaceful and nice offer, I have also received offers of business form King_Nothing the Deceased:
King_Nothing wrote:Our group might be interested in tracking down that filthy thief for you, shall you allow us. Interested?

Now, as a noob, I can’t get very far into the darkness. The only way I can get to see the thief is through the strong and able people out there. I prefer doing my own journey, but realize that the darkness is as far as I can get for now, I decided that I am too curious about him that I just want to ask him, now!
Even though It could cost him his life.
After hearing my intent of not killing the thief, he respond:
King_Nothing wrote:Sure thing, we don't need to kill him. We might loot him to some degree, but the customer is always right, so we will spare his life! Depending on who it is, he may lose a hand, but we'll see. Either way, kin me for now: "******”

Thank you King Nothing, I’ll give you the information you need and a baked turkey to give the thief as a gift from me ;)
The sweetest and most helpful person to ever sent me help would be Cheena, the Accomplished Detective. Immediately after reading my original post, she inquired:
Cheena wrote:Where is your mine? Do you have a smelter? Why isn't your stone wall finished? No lock on your door?
Well by looking at your picture, if the thief entered it's because your door wasn't locked. Also, to track a criminal, the best is to have a world map, to check from providence where the tracks lead, and then from your homestead, and then from a third place. The third place often being complicated, you can still have a big cross on the map from Providence and your homestead.
But that's not exactly the reason I'm messaging you during your travelling. Actually, looks like you've been walking for a little while there. So I thought you'd have a good load of map tiles.
I myself have a little map of Providence. It's a bit outdated as I haven't travelled the lands in a long time, but I could help you finding your way out, especially now that you reached that mountain.
So, I'm asking for a deal: I offer you my whole map against your map tiles. Not only that, I can also help you finding where your thief lives if you want to.
- (if you're not afraid of me because it implies you give me your HS) some help tracking down your thief (with the map, not personally)
- Whatever advice you'd need (that's actually free, and totally bonus, I don't need your map for that :p)
Have fun and stay safe whatever your decide ;)
Cheena

After two failed attempts >”<, I do have a good chunk of map tiles. I gave her my information and quickly she started the business. I tried to track myself in Providence
Cheena wrote:Yes for sure !
Darn, that's funny because... Well when I started playing Salem, I was just using the wilderness guide and just build my base around the place he found for me.
At the start of this server... Well I knew I should NOT do that and just start walking from Providence until I find the pefect place to settle. That way I had a map, I knew where I was towards Providence, and from that, do whatever I want.

But giving my noob attempt to take a bearing for where I was compare to Providence failed immediately, trouble arise:
Cheena wrote:Houston we have a problem!
...I have not the singlest clue of where you can be. My bet is that you live in the north of the map, and I happen to have very few tiles up there. Soooo... I'll keep searching for the match, but... grmbl.
Anyway I'll give you a quick tutorial on how to track. And my map. Try not selling it or giving it to the first dude that asks for it... there are bases on it that may not want to be found. Like mine xD
[I want to keep it secret as she required]
Be right back, painting the scent tracking tuto ;)

This is her tracking recipe, I hope it could help some of the newer people like me to get started on their own justice tracking attempt:
Cheena wrote:A track recipe.
You need :
- A providence map, more or less accurate.
- to know where your base is
- some scents.

How to :
First, pick up the scent and start to track. Easy. For my example, I took a larceny scent in providence.
Second. Go to the Providence Statue, it's quite easy to find on the map, it's the black rectangle in the middle of the town.
Take a screenshot (see image 1), copy paste in on paint.
Port home, do the same.
You should have this :
[Map removed to protect her]
Then starts the complicated part.
Take your map, draw lines according to the tracking arrows.
[Image removed to protect the owner]
Put those lines on the map. That's where a third base would be useful but... I don't have a third base, so whatever. Then tadaaa, you have a more or less accurate location.
[Removed image again]
It takes 10 minutes if you're not used to it. Now, knowing where it is on the map... Well you have a map, you can lend a horse, and go there to see what's up. Buuut we're poor people, horses are too expansive for us :p
So there. Good luck !

Take 10 minutes she said. Pretty easy she said. Anyhow, one hour later, she inquired me:
Cheena wrote: I found the match. Jesus. Alleluia. Some [flying] baby match but I found it.
...ok now I merge xD Sorry for the fuss. I'm just happy ! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Image

(just spent one hour trying out to find where darkness may start and where the heck my map and yours could cross, the last screenshot comes from paint and my attemps to make it match  )

She spent one hour helping an unknown person like me. Hu hu hu, I’m so touched
Anyway, I said my thank you word, and ask her how did she do that, then she replied:
Cheena wrote:By "eye" more than by "hand" usually. Usually I can recognize a piece of map when I see it. But in this case, it's on the north, and I never went into the north.
So I started by eye, trying to find where is your base but it's not on the map... so... I then tried to compare the files themselves with a program that can find similar pictures, but no result. So then I started to believe that I don't have a single tile matching with yours, and then I thought... Wait. He KO'd in darkness, he must be in the North, and I have one single road leading to north on my map, so he MUST have crossed it.
Then I only had to find where it was matching. Trying to find similar spots. They would think that's easy because biomes are a cluster in most of areas and particular spots are easily seen, but... Actually it's a lot easier in big one-biome areas. So now it's merged aaaand...

Your walk : (geez that's a long walk btw.)

That is one hell of a work you have there Cheena. You are such a good detective. I am very much appreciate what you have done for me.
So the story of my life can be summarized as below:
1. Too noob to know that I have to lock my door, I let a thief get into my house and take my money, my salamanders, my 5 slots cap and other things (or not) away from me.
2. Excited about being robbed (No BDSM pls) I went on tracking him down.
3. The server crashed. I was in a deadend then.
4. I tried again. This time get as far as into the Darkness (or so I thought) and then get KO’ed for being too noob to come there.
5. Cheena the great detector helped me finding the thief’s whereabouts.
Thank you guys! I really love how Salem can be played in multiple way. We don’t even need to turn the client on! Not many game can get that deep and into people’s mind like that. Wurm has weak politics. Dwarf Fortress is single-player. Minecraft (simplified Wurm) is too childish. Stranded 2: The Survivalist mod is also single-player. Xsyon have no politic to speak of. Yeah, only Salem so far!
I love you all. Have a good day.

P.S: BTW I was going west the whole time. there wasn't any ocean. It was my stupid, delusional mid that thought it's ocean. It is actually a big ass lake. like this one she show me*
(* not the real lake that I have been through)
