Java permission on Macintosh

I have come to know that my school have a line of Macintoshes that look nice and all. However, their permission setting can't be modified by the regular account (as opposite to Windows, where I can just click to add it). I am not very fluent in OSX so can anyone (if you can) show me how to do it? I believe it is possible without the administrator account. (I could be wrong)
