I believe Heff got extra taxes once for pissing off the King.

You are absolutely correct. I've been wanting to make a post about this. I have a love/hate relationship with the missing natives. I try to keep in mind that diseases decimated native poulations just prior to the colonizing of New England. Further more around the time period Salem takes place in the Pequot War had just concluded which involved the Narragansett (whose land Providence was built on, with permission of course, Roger Williams was half-way alright), the Mohegan to the North East of Rhode Island, and the Pequots to the East of Rhode Island. So our natives might just be pre-occupied. This was a period of growing rifts between colonizers and natives, so they also might be avoiding us.

Yes, like I said Roger Williams was an alright guy, but no it wasn't really enforced very well.

Seems plenty of people act as slaves in this game, joining towns and mining for them or whatnot. Maybe they are indentured servants. Still extremely new to the game but thats what joining a town looks like to me

Except that they choose to indenture themselves and do not see themselves as indentured servants. It's just that a tedious task - that became tedious for experienced players after thousands of times doing it - is still new and interesting for newcomers. Experienced players may see that as a task that no one want to do but we are wrong, we just forgot about the glory of the past; the thrill of the shovel hitting the ground, the cracking sound of a forest giant as the ax falls it down, the bruising of the leaves as we walk in the glorious landscape. Only with the recent overhaul have we entertained ourselves with the chipping of stone, the sound of fire and steel and the darkness of the underworld. Before then we were just confined in our fortresses, unmoving and unmoved.

It's actually pretty easy.

1) Equip your Tongs
2) Fill the finery forge with coal.
3) Take 1 bar of iron and as much coal you can carry.
4) Lit the Forge.
5) Wait for the second bar to go up to 100 while adding coal so the forge doesn't unlit.
6) Put the iron inside and every time one of the chimney stops smoking, activate its bellow. Fill with coal when needed.
6) Repeat until the bar turns into Iron Bloom.
7) Take the bloom (making sure your tongs are equipped) and carry it to a trip hammer. Hammer it till it turns into Wrought iron.
8) Repeat steps 6 to 8.

Tips: If you are three players, each one can take care of one of the bellows for maximum efficiency. If you are alone don't try to put more than iron at the same time or you won't have time to hammer it at the trip hammer, it will turn to dross. However when you take out your first iron bloom, you can put another iron bar inside. This will allow you to chain hammer iron bloom as by the time you finish hammering one the iron bar will have turned to bloom.

Hope that helps.
