Request: Clarification about forum fraud and scam

Postby Judаism » Wed Feb 04, 2015 12:38 pm

Hi. This account is created to test something. I'm not Judaism, and I have something fishy for you.

We've just discovered scammer. This is his account -> memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=54621

I thought he can go further, so I decided to protect sir Juda from other scammer, who could falsify his account THIS good. To create this account, I've used Cyrillic symbol а, which is quite similar to Latin one.

So, here's my question to the devs: Is this legal?

I've searched EULA text and found nothing about this. Usually, EULAs have something about false impersonation (at least, related to game and forum administration).
In case if you don't care, this can has some dire consequences. Imagine this PM from JohnCаrver: "Hi, i'm JohnCarver, we think you're haxor bcuz u did something fishy, please giff me ur account name and pwd, we must check something". This will work. This always works, because people are idiots. Yes, this will be their fault, because they were not too attentive and aware of zero post count, but you will be guilty for that too.

Feel free do deactivate and delete this account after.

Didn't knew it would recognize all the characters from:
http://copypastecharacter.com/all-characters

Either way, people could still look at the postcount and so forth. In John's case, its impossible to get an admin status on the forums and on top of that he would never ask for character details.

You can't reject fraud, because it exists. And fraud exists only because people don't pay 100% attention to details. So, if it exists - it works.

Does this have anything to do with Juda apparently becoming a thief in trades? I have no input on this, just an observation from the forum thread.

Please reference the following thread that all members of the forum should read, hence its sticky.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9770

From it, I draw your attention to the following:

TotalyMeow wrote:§1 - General

4b. Accounts made in mockery of another account or to impersonate or fool the community into believing they are that other account are forbidden and will be banned.

§2 – Content Regulations

2. Do not impersonate staff. Content which can be mistaken as official or otherwise cause similar confusion (such as posting with 'moderator green' text) is prohibited. Removal or editing of any Moderator alteration to a post is also prohibited. In addition, do not point out that another user is breaking the rules. Use the report function to report rules violations.

Accounts used for the purpose of pretending to be another existing account will be banned. Probably not before we oust the culprit to let everyone know who it was. Impersonating staff is a much more serious, circumstances depending.

As for EULA interpretation, reference 2. OWNERSHIP, and part D under 6. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS, not to mention 18. As a layman reading the jargon, that appears to be enough to handle a situation of fraud in game, should the company need to investigate/intervene.

I vaguely remember this happening to several people around 6 months ago, maybe more. I know Darwoth was one person impersonated. I also think that was amended to the EULA shortly after that outbreak.

Nice, nice! So, we can report bad guys. Thanks.

Now, kill this account. I don't want to be reported and banned someday in future.

I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
