I don't even like water towers in the game to begin with.

Why not?

It's true that personally i dont see the use as I fill my buckets in the river but it can be useful for people living far away from any water.

First iron water towers didn't exist in colonial america. Second who sets up a base far away from water? Third it's not really any less work than filling a bunch of buckets with water and storing them in a cart.

A lot of people actually go fill their buckets in Providence. I would assume that they don't live near water or are too lazy.
As for water towers in colonial America, I am not a specialist of the question. I do remember a book that I read which mentioned quite advanced water system (water tower with a system of pipelines which alimented the whole city) as early as the beginning of 18th century. But then water towers are not a modern invention, I don't see the idea of water towers in mid 17th century America to be that far-fetched.

Honestly if they were just wooden I'd be like 100x more comfortable with them.

I had suggested wind powered water pumps, I even suggested that they cost a lot to build and needed an expensive skill but they were still deemed "over powered", as has been mentioned, the water tower as it is, is no more useful than a cart full of barrels, which is much more practical as you can take it to the water source with you. What I was suggesting was an expensive building that would provide a small amount of water a day, lets say 1/2 a litre an hour with maximum storage for 20l, is you think this is too powerful, then suggest a speed and a cap that wouldn't be. I would much rather have a building that provided water at a slow rate than simply a big tank like this. Even 0.1 litres an hour with a cap of 10 litres, but I think that would be my limit for building such a building. 10 pots every 5 days? Hmmmmm

Or you could have a rain barrel. I know ostensibly it doesn't rain, but it might be nice to have special barrels that generate water passively like you are talking about. Wouldn't need to be anything fancy.

Yup, I suggested them a long time ago too, back when Jorb and Loftar were in charge and did a live stream, I suggested rain water harvesting as a thing to make houses more than just a prerequisite for a stove, and they seemed to think that meant they had to make it actually rain... derp

That would actually make sense, let the water tower slowly gain water through "rain"!
I heard that already a few times.

And I would say a silo for dry goods is not exactly the same as a water storage...

As to the usefulness of a water tower, its use is right now nigh zero, except you can fill it up once, and then dont bother about getting water for quite a while though its not less work,
only useful if your town is under siege I'd say.
