Coming back to Salem

Postby Toorimakun » Wed Jan 21, 2015 10:39 pm

i am coming back to salem.

1st:
the first thing i noticed when coming back to salem... is the main town is empty.

as a player that already knows the basics of the game... this was still frustrating for me to try and find out about the state of the game and clear up any changes that have been done...... im sure this has driven a way a ton of new players.
*most people judge the games population health on how many people they see when they first login, not to mention being able to get help learning the game.*

as an example:
i saw some one yesterday asking around town about when he can buy silver, where it goes and so forth..... for the 15-20 minutes or so i was trading in town i never saw any one answer him.
this drivers the player away
and since this guy was looking to buy silver.... is money the devas have missed out on.

2nd:
i am finding stuff like beavers in the middle of the grass lands with no water in sight
drift wood with no water in sight
and other stuff that use to be biom related all over the place....
what is the point of having all these bioms if we find every thing in every biom?

3rd:
purity....
while i like the changes to pots and chicken coops and stuff...
it seems purity has very little impact.... if any now....
it would be nice to see purity come back to the game.

4th:
mining
while i hear mining is about to change again...
my complaint about mining is still the same as it was before.... lime.
i still think that going from a lime pit to a lime mine is the best option.... maybe also have lime turn up in normal mines since it sounds like copper mines and iron mines are going to become a single mine.

5th:
curiosity
kind of mixed feelings of this... firstly it makes it so that a new char has pretty much nothing to do once he uses up all his curiosity.
but dose keep higher level players from spam plvling a ton of alts to some extent...tho i wouldn't say this is a very effective way to do that since a high lvl player can also level up their biles really quickly and then get a better curiosity regen faster.
while i know we don't want a ton of alts running around....
i think over all this system hurts new players more then helps prevent alts.
RIP: Purity, you will be missed.

Hey! I do remember you (or at least, your forum name

Given diseases and witchcraft, this is a direction the devs are pushing for. On this particular topic I don't agree with them, but oh well

driftwood and beavers always spawned in other places besides shallow water and sand. Recently there were actually unique inspirationals added to each biome, which are very impressively strong (think a system like honeydews but top-of-the-line inspirationals).

Rather than the old ten-fold at max purity, we now have a two-fold improvement on max purity. It was tough to swallow at the beginning, but by now I start to see this is actually a decnetly good thing and makes balancing much much easier, as well as catching up with established players.

the changes so far have turned ore into the bottleneck rather than lime, and slower chipping means that we are discouraged from liming our fields too high. For this one, i'd say wait until the brand new mining patch later this month/early february.

it's called inspiration in this game. I think you're overestimating what the average new player is able to achieve. With the standard inspiration package for new characters i've managed several fresh alts to get decently far in hunting,mining,planting,etc... within an hour or so. True, after that their inspiration is gone, but a new player will never be able to manage to steady stream of inspirationals I can send to the alt.
I'm far from a top-end player and I don't play as much as I would like/should like, but I generally have inspiration leftover and have trouble keeping it at zero AND studying in a focused fashion. Generally i'm studying whatever I have lieing about these days.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

well it was curiosity when they first launched the game :P haha
the people i played with before were old players so they called them curiosities.

.... but sadly it seems they are not going to come back to salem... RIP Martinzzz and the rest of Sherwood Forest. :'(

Welcome back Kia.

I tend to believe the lack of activity tends to come from the fact that JC has us working our buts off with new content every month. I love to help noobs and talk to people as we all know but am so busy at my base. I will try and find time to spend in Boston if I can get away from the warden. He has a giant club and whip and I am somewhat scared. :o
Embie is my name :P

....sadly i haven't found a single snake skull. :'(
wonder if the drop rate is lower in stumps/logs or they are only found from killing snakes now?

I believe there were some patch notes stating that their drop rate from stumps was further lowered. Can't say for sure whether they still spawn them, though.

Welcome back, nice to see old players coming back.

There's actually more players then before now on salem, but witches & diseases make the main town look very empty :s

Most of your concerns are already answered by latikai, so not much to add there. :P

Chat window in Salem is just too obscure, i go to town often but rarely remember to read th chat because its not very obvious like most mmo chats.

Lime boulders with varied sizes was nice, just wished the smaller one wouldnt come up so often. Anything that reduces the need of digging huge holes is nice, clay could use some of this.

increasing your mines and mountains will allow you to dig up bigger lime boulders more often. But yes, the amount of clay my town's been digging out for our brick walls is, frankly speaking, worrying.
