Deep Threat Suggestions

Postby DeepThreat » Sun Jan 11, 2015 10:53 am

Having only played this game a short amount of time and just barely getting a feel for it there are small things here and there that I think "That might be nice/cool/realistic" So I figured I would just drop a few of the ideas here and see what everyone thinks, if you disagree with something (or everything for that matter) all I ask is that we keep things respectful and talk it out, responses will be answered accordingly. With that being said EVERYONE's opinion matters and if you disagree I would actually like for you to explain why you disagree so that we can better understand each other.

My first idea is a mailing system, a way to send items/messages to other players. I know some people might be thinking "Why would we need to send messages through a mailing system?" And the answer is pretty simple, not all of us are able to remain logged on until someone returns or gets on. A mailing system would be a nice way to contact players you're not able to contact often. The catch would be it would need to be a skill learned. Someone simple after settling of course, you could build a mailbox that you check periodically, people could steal your mail (I just think it'd be an interesting addition) but it would be a summonable crime. I was reading soon there will be a weight system instead, items sent based on weight could cost x amount of silver to send and depending on speed (instant, 30 minutes, 1 day, 3 day) how much silver is spent, the formula could be weight multiplied by speed. Simple written letters would be free and instant. A few things that could come with this;
Mailbox Secret ~ This way nobody can send you random letters
Postal Service - This would be of the sorts, maybe not like a real modern looking one but with a few horses out back to look a little legit. You could bring what you want mailed to the postal service to enter in their MS and pay the necessary silver to send the package.
Mailbox - The only way to accept letters/items and can be attacked/looted
Mailmen - I'm thinking an NPC that delievers the item and can be attacked and looted, not sure how to make this punishable maybe a way to "Start investigation for X amount of silver" to see who could have tampered. But I'm thinking a random 1 hour walk from the mailbox, I'm not sure how you'd program that but it would need to be 1 hour away and still able to path find the entire trip to said mailbox. 3 days would be 1 hour a day for 3 days in random locations close by, 1 day is just 1 hour, 30 minutes you'd be paying a lot of silver for just 30 minutes away.

My next idea is a sort of recovery idea, I know we have food to rejuvenate but we are neglecting hands down the best way to recovery and that's sleep! I know it may sounds silly but hear me out. What about the addition of sleeping bags? It could start small with sleeping bags but I'll use sleeping bags right now just to get the idea across. The sleeping bag would allow a player to rest until all humors are full (This could be anywhere from 1-10 minutes) you'd right click the sleeping bag, press rest and the entire screen would go black (or make it fun and give like a dream, maybe an ad to help bring in revenue because I'm thinking of you guys) and all you can see are your humors. You have the ability to wake up whenever in case you feel you're in danger but if the character actually laid down under a sleeping bag that would be awesome. There could be different types of sleeping bags for different types of biomes, allowing camoflauge from snakes/bears/other players (Though keep in mind it won't be a really good hiding spot but it could keep you hidden from other players). It would be a craftable item under clothing and equipment and a skill would need to be added in order to craft. This idea gives room for much more though, it's expandable. For example portable tents instead of backpacks, allowing for maybe a little more storage than a backpack but the ability to rest without a sleeping bag (Would need to carry tent as a backpack until set up) inside could be a cooking/hunting/forging set up. Though it'd be specific, once constructing the tent you have to choose what kind of a tent it will be. Hunting will give a cooking area, maybe a drying rack, forging would give additional storage or whatnot. So like I said, it's an expandable idea that could progress past sleeping bags.

Anyway these are all my ideas for now, I'll be sure to update more as I continue to play but these are just a few main things I think would be a great addition to the game.

Happy Gaming Everyone!

Not much to work on but it's something, it's unfortunate that the opposing argument started with something as weak as "Fairly crap ideas", though if you were aiming for uneducated ******* you pretty much hit the nail on the head!

We can start with the mailing system, understanding it has already been suggested I decided to throw in my own idea on how the system would work. The idea seemed different enough that instead of reviving a dead topic from August I felt like compiling ideas and throwing them together. I'll admit due to the lack of real depth the previous one had I felt like just trying from scratch and working from there. I tried to see what concerns JC had regarding the previous idea but I'll admit I still could have gone more into depth regarding my idea for the mailing system.

As for the napping it's true, you could go forage and it would be safer, but sometimes safety falls short of convenience. If I didn't want to go forage for items to fill all my humors and I had a sleeping bag that could do it while I just sat here staring at the screen I would, though I would probably choose foraging 7 times out of 10. That and you totally missed the idea of progressing from sleeping bags to more useful items such as a portable tent.

If you feel like a rebuttal all I ask is that unlike your previous brain dead post you actually put some thought and effort into it and completely shut my idea down! I can tell this game isn't targeted towards the uneducated and brain dead so I know you've got to be far from considering I've seen you're name before and know you're a great player, don't leave with an argument that weak, give my ideas a run for their money! I love intellectual debates and I am willing to bet you'd keep me on my toes, just stay on the topic and make it happen! Just so you know I'm looking for a fun clean argument to challenge you, not to genuinely insult you, so if I did I would like to apologize in advance.

Actually from Dallane that is a pretty good response, usually its just a "NO". As for expecting intellectual debates on a game forum, good luck with that.

There is another way to regen humors, you can drink tea. There has been a discussion on sleep quite recently, I realise your idea is slightly different from that but it still would've been better to join that discussion IMO. It is usually a good idea to give different ideas different threads, so they can be discussed independently, and given identifying titles. I assumed this thread was about some sort of deep threat? Maybe a pun on changing the e in your name to a different vowel.

I don't think either of your ideas are necessarily bad, but I don't think either add that much to the game, it really isn't hard to get food for regen, especially once you get a base built, and actually that is sort of the point in a game which is partly about survival. FYI there is already a post office in providence, it is marked by the sign with a bugle on it (I think its a bugle), it is currently used for distributing items from the store and gifts from the devs. It would be nice if there was a system for posting items that could be raided, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm sitting on the hopes that maybe sense it's a crafting mmo the gaming forum will be full of people who understand how to have an actual debate and conversation, much like yourself haha. As for the Tea I actually don't know much about it, like I said I'm fairly new, but what happens when you don't want to waste a sip, or a bite or you're sitting around with nothing really to do because you're preoccupied or checking the forums. The idea is focused around sleep not a sleeping bag (just thought I'd clear that up even though the two who responded understood that) it could also be at your settlement for regenerating phlegm for building, take a quick minute nap for full phlegm and start building again. I'll admit it doesn't add much to the game but over time it would just be a nice thing to have. I'll come back tomorrow with a lot more, it's 4am and I'm very tired. I have many more additions to these ideas via debating it with a friend in game and he may be turning around with some of the ideas we came up with, definitely some great ideas that will be coming, this seems empty without them lol.

Ok lets focus on regen, you must spend some time gathering food for regen. TBH it doesn't have to be that long, berries on a straw is the easiest regen food IMO, roasted fish is easy to get hold of, especially if you can make a trap and lumberjack frikadels once you can kill beavers. Once you have learned shrub orchards you can plant your own tea bush. Then there high level foods for regen, for example funky pumpkins have 8 bites and heal 70 blood and 40 of the other biles. Cabbage crumbs have 4 bites and are about the same but for phlegm, pies can be sliced to give a total of 160 to every humor. There was a similar suggestion to your idea but it was about a chair that you sat in instead of a sleeping bag/tent/etc, it came straight from HnH, Salems predecessor, and it wasn't a very popular mechanic, mainly because not doing anything isn't very fun.

If you are AFK, or even just not concentrating on the game, then you should log out, its one of the first things you should learn, most people learn the hard way by getting killed. I was digging soil yesterday and allowed my attention to swing to my other monitor on the forums and ended up catching land legs from a rat.

ITT a noob idiot doesn't know about the current ways to regen and makes "good ideas" that are essentially spam.

Noob vs Newbie - Yes this person is a newbie and doesn't understand the system, so explain it to them so they don't continue making the same mistakes.

Mailbox system. We have a PM system here on the forums, works the same without the fuss. Don't think of the forums as seperate from the game, they are very much a part of it.

Sleep. Beds and sleep are being considered.

Keep posting suggestions, they will be read, but thicken up that skin of yours; someone upseting you isn't a very good excuse for be an ass too.
