I'm not in any way saying that you are a racist and I honestly think it's great that your group is open-minded. I just feel that having a name that is considered offensive is to try and put out the flames with gasoline. The most sensible way to handle things like the "It's because he's black" thread is to do what is standard procedure with inflammatory trolls; report and ignore. That's the most effective way to signal that you don't think that such a discussion has any place on the forums of a game like this. While I really do appreciate that you're speaking out against intolerance I would remind you that only a select few, very vocal people act in these anti-social and hateful ways around here.

What I'm saying is that the irony of being anti-racist while also naming your group after one of the most reviled organisations in modern history will obviously be lost to the people that don't know you personally. Seeing as how a lot of people don't I would understand that people might get offended.

Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't use the "R" word. That's hardly appropriate. :)

wanting to kill someone (in a video game setting) over their opinion is different than wanting to kill someone for the color of their skin.

I'm sorry, I won't.
As for the people referring to us as the KKK and knowing us as the KKK the damage is done. It is up to the community to refer to us as the Kristians.

I don't know what point you were trying to make here, but that picture was very racist, so I've deleted it.

It certainly is not, I think that most people agree on that.

It's just an acronym for their name, you are the ones giving it the vile persona, now i'm not saying the kristians are saints, but if you really cannot get over the brainwashing of 3 letters to form an acronym other then the ku klux klan, and do not want to expose yourself to it you really should not be playing Salem or any game for that matter. This is what the forum wastes their time debating, instead of progressing further, and making this game more enjoyable with new ideas, its the same "hur dur only my opinion is right" mentality.

Yes, this thread should have been split a long time ago. I got it confused with another thread and didn't realize it was such a derail.

The two main reasons why I'm siding with the 'change your name please' group are these:

First, I grew up very near the headquarters of the KKK and they are an awful group of people who do horrible things and I still live in that area. I don't know how many of your raiding group live in that part of the US, but it's really not a thing to be joking about. It's not 'hilarious' that you're named after a group who met in a cave just down the road until just a few years ago, and did murder by lynching several black people in that cave. A group that still exists and continues to terrorize people. This isn't, as you claim, like the Holocaust which, while unspeakably awful, is in the past, and is starting to slide out of living memory.

Second, as a large raiding group, you're likely to be one of the first things a lot of new players see in Salem; either in game, or in the forums. It's bad for business, plain and simple. I hate the idea that people will come to Salem, and be influenced on whether they stay or go by your tasteless name.

That being said, MM bought Salem more to have fun and freedom than to make money. You're free to do things like this whether or not it ultimately causes even more emptying of savings accounts.

I can see how you might find this name offencive, I'd be stupid not to agree with you. I know what it is a reference too, I know it's a horrible thing. But;

I'm from a small island country, we've had alot of issues with pirates in the old days, we didn't have much. They've raped, pillaged etc. you get the point.
and me being from an island society, and fishing being one of the main industries, we still today have issues with pirates, and shipping (when our ship need to pass by countries that tend to do have pirates) today. what is my point? That's someone's dad that has to risk his life just to ship some cargo. And I take that very dearly, since I come from a small society, you always know someone who knew them.

what is my point? there used to be a group called " pirates " that liked to kill and raid people :P Pirates have probably caused more death and destruction than the "Ku Kux Klan". and that group wasn't asked to change their name. And ofc. I see the difference, pirates are often imagined with hooks, a parrot and a funny smile. But in reality pirates aren't like that :P Pirates are no fun...

But I do acknowledge that it's a good name and it creates solidarity within the group.
But it's the same with KKK, people get on here to have fun, talk to friends, or play "the farming simulator game salem"
people get on here because they wanna forget about real life, maybe crack some jokes.
and as any good joke should be executed, you take something serious, and make it less serious.
and I think they've done that perfectly.

If every single name had to be changed that was some sort of bad group, or offended someone. Then there'd be no fun names left.
I'm going to give you some examples;

Vikings (illaged raped etc.)
russian (it might be offencive to certain russians, or people that participated in a war)

names:

obama (I've seen so many people that are called obama in this game..)
Totalymeow (a friend whom I knew who died of cancer a few years back at the age of 22, was called "Meow" in another mmo I played :P every single time I see your name, I realise that a great person died, for no apparent reason. But that doesn't mean that you should change your name, just because I feel discomfort with it)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, suck it up :
