I play with one character, I have another that I was using for mapping back in the start of the world and I considered using him as a fishing alt but I just don't enjoy playing with two characters, if I want fish it would be easier to buy it. I think THAT is the way JC is trying to drive the game. The idea of professions isn't to force you to have lots of alts but to try and encourage you to work together, even if that just means visiting providence to trade with someone. I am not suggesting that I am a typical player, I'm just saying I really don't enjoy training up alts.

I also play the same way, as do my friends, and this has led to our little community (we all have our own bases scattered around our area) to specalize in what we enjoy doing. For me its farming and cooking, another loves hunting/exploring and talioring, another focuses on alcamy and medicens and the final guy loves mining/making metal and building new structures ( he is super excited about the next patch - even if it means moving his base around a bit). I guess we are lucky in that we all enjoy doing diffrent things. Of course we also dabble in other areas, I sometimes mine and hunt. But its nice that iIcan just focus on doing what I enjoy in the game.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

if you have skilled alts you won't rage quit when you die.

If you ragequit when you die, you're A) in the wrong game and B) probably need to see a therapist to get those anger issues sorted.

The last few pages really sum it up well.

Though I would not go for more than 5 or so alts anyway, right now I only use 2, one with woodworking equip for that reason (less than 1h work into that alt), but depending on your location you might need an alt at a certain resource or so, too.
And with the current population you can*t really do without alts if you want to get anywhere, not to even speak of if you want to just play with 1 or 2 friends, but I bet JC does not want us to play it like that anyway... -.-

JC seems to have a VERY FIRM believe in what is fun and how everyone should play salem, I doubt that this will get us in the right direction.
Don*t get me wrong, many things that changed lately were good, but this whole tea thingy with its sole purpose to force people to use gluttony, is pretty much ruining alot,
especially as it impacts other changes like mining, serious mining won't be doable without tea, not to even speak of how it speeds up raiding, nullifying much that has been changed there.

And I ask again, as it has not been answered yet:

How good is a mechanic (gluttony), if you need to force people to use it?!

Many people leave gluttony after a certain point? Why do they do that? And is it really bad?
Do you (JC) really need to tell people how they have to play the game, and how they have to have fun?

If you want gluttony more appealing, then change it, instead of working around it!

[edit:]
Gluttony was meant as a kind of leveling system, determinig your max stats by your tech and resources (I assume).
With tea and QQ, it will be nothing more than a hazzle, a thing that needs to be done so you can continue using tea.
Is that, JC, what you wanted?

And would you mind to explain, where the sense in gluttony is then?
