They are all over the darkness. I can see them ko'ing new characters pretty easily, and with the newbie then having a disease, I could see that being a great way to put off the fresh meat.

Well, since the Darkness is something new players should be avoiding anyway, I would guess that visually seeing the rats running around (and maybe getting sick/attacked by them) Is a good way to give them the clear message that the darkness is 'Not a nice place'

From what the Devs have been saying the only people who will want to live in the darkness are those that have to (witchs) and those that are trying to hide (theives). Evryone else should really give the place a wide birth unless its for hunting trips.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

heh, I live there, I'm not a witch, or a thief, I just find there are a lot less people wandering around to stumble across my base and decide to raid it. Initially I moved here because it had decent water, but now thats useless I can't bring myself to leave for somewhere better because of the infrastructure I have built. Maybe in a few more patches if things change even more I might build a new base to make the most of the new design requirements.

This 'complications and difficulties' in this choice will become more and more apparent as patches continue.

Just as soon as you give up hope and do something else.

I'm not sure what you are saying but are you telling me that life will get a lot harder? I am aware you had mentioned this a while back somewhere. IE there will be more animals trying to KILL me and the darkness will cause more drain? This patch obviously added the plague carrying rats.

Indeed. We aim to add a new darkness mob each patch. Which in general will make darkness living harder. So far I have seen "2" of hte new darkness mobs posted. I have not seen the 3rd one we have added posted anywhere yet.

If it makes you feel better, they don't like you either.
