He probably used the term new as to define his character not his account. He probably played before the wipe and came back. Just idle speculations.

You're right. I should have caught that. However, there are going to be plenty of new guys that will run into this. Those new guys may not find anything valuable in the grand scheme of things, but those lost items are going to be valuable to them. Is a player going to even bother playing that second day if their inventory gets dumped by the game?

I don't think 3 mouse clicks is a chore. There are enough wilderness guides for people to understand that they need to use their service.

But what is that "need"? To get to the "dangerous" wilderness and get ganked the first day playing? How does it work? What's the need to have a homestead in the wilderness when I just want to wander around and see what this game is about for 30 minutes today, maybe an hour tomorrow? (30 minutes turned into 4 hours for me... it's how I got hooked into Seatribe games.)

It is a chore because it's one more thing you have to do before logging out. Feeding your dog every day is a chore. You do it and it takes less than two minutes. You try to remember to do it before you go to bed at night, and most respectable pet owners have a set time to do it. But if you had a pet as a kid, how many times did your parents have to say (probably when you first got the pet) "Have you fed the dog yet" just before you went to bed? Maybe you were one of those kids that had parents that said these things early in the day. There's plenty of parents (and employers) out there that don't say these thing until time for bed (time to leave, etc).

Point is, nobody should be told something needs to be done just before they "go to bed." Something that needs to be done by a person should be told to them well in advance of the thought of leaving for the day, let alone at the last second of logging out.

Thank you magicManICT

I actually am that new. I played the game for the first time on the 9th.
I used the term Boston because that's what I picked up from another player
Who helped me replace the clothes i lost.

Your explanation actually clears it up for me. I thought providence and Boston were interchangble.

I think if this knowledge(lack of homestead = loss of everything in a crash) was part of a tutorial it would go a long way to helping this issue.

Also if I might suggest, what a about a guy in Providence who re-issues newbie cloths to people that
Have none? That would help as well I think.

The clothes were the main issue for me since I have no way of getting another set in a reasonable amount of time unles another player intervenes.

Yep, the fact that a player will need a leanto before logging out should be one of the first things that a new player is told after they get off the boat in my opinion.

The fact that a new player has a box on their HUD telling them exactly what to do that doesn't go away until they do it seems more than enough warning to me.

You have a box in the lower right that instructs you to talk to the wilderness guide, you failed to do it. The "Tutorial" isn't over until you do. I would just as happily "Delete" a character that hasn't talked to the wilderness guide, thus, deleting only his items and gear seems like the lesser punishment. Because he hasn't finished the tutorial, and so thus, I don't consider him a part of the Salem world yet.

This is all pretty irrelevant as redoing the tutorial is coming up soon on the roadmap. After we do, we will in fact be deleting any characters who fail to complete the tutorial. The completion of the tutorial will still 'end' with a homestead.

It tells you to talk to the wilderness guide but not what happens if you don't, the help section on homesteads doesn't even tell you that you need to have one to keep your inventory.

I had completely forgotten that the tutorial isn't over until you've gotten out of towm. I can't say I'm 100% sure about that opinion, but...

Given this and that it only takes 15 minutes or so to finish the tutorial (unless more is added), I'd say that satisfies me.

I'd have to double check the in-game guides and such, but I'm sure more than one or two need updated with all the changes the last few months.
