But why reward such obvious slacking!

Perhaps we should put in a warm and cozy buff that only applies if you watch your character sleep in his bed for 8 hours. We force the player to be active by having some mini-game that makes you turn in your sleep. After playing that minigame for 8 hours you could get the W&C buff for a full nights sleep in-game. It could be like fishing but "Think of England" can be replaced with "Dream of Golden Goose" ¦]

no more bad fishing mechanics plz

I can get behind this if you got a higher inspiration regen by sleeping in the bed or a temporary inspiration regen buff after sleeping in it x amount of hours.

The flip side would be to penalize people for NOT sleeping in a bed, making beds necessary to combat some kind of fatigue mechanic.

There is always the insanity mechanic that is coming too ^^. Slowly become more and more insane with sleep deprivation.

You mean other than the one required to play a game where you need lard to make a wall?

And you can always have a flip side to the bed.

If you wake up will full inspration you get a debuff called 'Bed sores' which gives a penalty to your homors for having spent too long in bed and being lazy.

Oh and a random chance of getting 'Bed Bugs' - causing you to have to 'Ash and Lime' your bed to remove the bugs before you can sleep in it again.
Do not argue with idiots, for they will pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

In character, I guess. Even if we don't have a lot of Lovecraftian creatures we can have the tone seeing as how some of his protagonists got rattled by giant penguins. I see no reason why giant beavers or giant turkies would not seriously traumatize them.

That being said, I wouldn't mind some Lovecraft type stuff. Especially if and when we have the religion thing. If Christians get options, Witches should too. Not just the plain Jane stuff, but an option to make enemies of the "normal" witches (or maybe all witches are enemies?) and have a different power set. Like, instead of hexes, you can do stuff like be obnoxiously hard to kill/keep a lager portion of your character when you die by possessing your descendant, or stuff like summoning rather than hexes. (Even small stuff would sometimes not do what you wanted, and big stuff would a lot of the time. But if you had like, a rat creature, it would probably be fine. It would be the actually dangerous to high level player stuff that might also slaughter you, or ONLY slaughter you.)

It would be an amusing "screw you buddy" button if nothing else. Especially if you summoned something like a Night Gaunt/Other flying nasty that was rather fast and not impeded by walls. If it was too powerful you could take a NASTY hit to your sanity, or even significant permanent bile damage. All for something that might kill you instead, but would also be very nasty against other players. I'm thinking it would have an extremely nasty fear mechanic too, so running in your house would not save you from damage any more than a bear. You might not die, but you would still hemhorage black bile and go through a lot of food.

Side effect buffs for not sleeping:
Hallucination: where you have to see unreal things like trees have scary faces, shadow figures and monsters instead of animals then screen blurring a little bit after maybe few days or weeks of not sleeping the character will die. But of course you will only count the time of awake and sleep of the player gameplay time based.
Headache: if the character don't sleep continuously or get interrupted it will get a debuff but idk about the debuff effect, suggestions temporary reduced max humor or decreased current humor?

Hmm, in combination with houses?

Lockable house door + bed is similar to leantoo but harder to loot and could give some regenerative bonus of some kind.
