also this post is going to crash and burn quickly as I see it dissolving into a bigot affair..
Why ? This whole case was based on "Its because he was black" being the reason why the cop killed him. I am only putting this title because its what has been screamed about for the past several months over all media channels.
I personally like how him being shot 6 times as seen by multipul eye witness's, yet all were proven total bullcrap.
He was shot 12 times not 6, twice in the car as he was punching and grabbing for the cops gun and 10 times 30 meters down the road after he ran and then turned on the cop. He may have been surrendering but according to some witnesses he was turning to face the cop, possibly to attack him.
I'm pretty liberal, but this isn't Trevon Martin who was also unarmed, confronted and killed by a private citizen because of how he looked. I understand the basic premise of how young black males are perceived in American society and am wiling to have that argument, but this case is very different in some ways.
Many facts are much worse for the victim here. Brown had marijuana in his system. He and his friend had just stolen some stuff from a convenience store and shoved/hit the owner when he confronted them. The police officer WAS responding to that call and WAS given a description of Brown as the person who had just robbed them. He had no way of knowing if he was armed or not. He quickly ran into Brown and his friend who were walking down the middle of the street just blocks away from the robbery. As he confronted them to get out of the road another, more accurate description came over the radio and he started to get out of his car. Brown then attacked him through the window punching him at least once and possibly going for his gun. Brown was shot in the arm inside of the police car (his blood was found inside it) and then turned to run. He then either turned to attack the cop or turned to surrender, either way he did not lay down on the ground like the cop was telling him too.
I definitely think the cop used excessive force, but again, he had no way of knowing if Brown had a gun. Brown did attack him.
Some things that could have prevented this all from happening.
1. Less guns, if guns are hard to get then eventually we'll run out of them.
2. Body cameras for police officers. This generally makes police officers more conscience of how they are using force.
3. 2 cops per car. This would probably of prevented this all from happening. Unfortunately some towns like Ferguson can't afford that.
4. More black police officers on the force. Ferguson is a newly 'Black' town which is a suburb of St. Louis. Most of the established police and politicians are white. The town has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. The police force hasn't
5. The militarized response by the police following the first riots is one of the biggest problems in America right now. Tons and tons of military hardware has been given to police forces around the country since 9/11. It's scary how armed they are now.
6. Michael Brown shouldn't have hit the cop or gone for his gun. That was just an idiotic thing to do and IN MY OPINION the cop is justified in fearing for his safety at that point.
Again, this could have been prevented but in my opinion Michael Brown was most at fault for how he died. The cop used excessive force by shooting him 12 times and should be fired, not jailed.
