Being a police officer in America is for the most part a very terrible and thankless job. People generally don't trust the police and don't think they are there to help them. Which is very sad and makes for a very toxic work environment. They are trained to protect themselves if they feel they are in immediate danger which is true for a majority of these killings. American media really blows **** out of proportion.
With that said they have a very dangerous job. You don't know what is going to happen when you answer a call or pull someone over. You have gangs who have initiation rights to kill, beat and threaten police. When my buddy was a officer he would be constantly harassed by them and it got to the point where he couldn't use a public restroom in fear that someone was going to come up behind him to take his weapon or shoot him through a stall door. There is a story down here where a mcdonalds was shot by a local gang killing a few officers while they were on break. He saw how it had effected other officers and how depressed a majority of them are. He finished out his year and resigned because he didn't want the job to change him like most of them.
This isn't true for all officers and every location is different. Small or rural areas typically wont have this issue.
Plz god don't bring up banning of guns. This would be a extremely impossible task for America to ever accomplish.
