There should really be a mandatory 10 minutes forum reading time before people can start playing, to prevent situations such as these :\

Is there any way my character to be recovering?

That said, let me just voice my own concerns about dying to one in this fashion. No matter how OP you are and how easy it is to kill them for you, it sucks that this kind of death is a possibility. I'd like to suggest that you guys implement something in their AI that isn't exploitable but also doesn't allow for crash/DC deaths. It's quite the dishonorabru death, and anyone that engages wishpooshies or other cuddly darkness creatures deserves to witness the beast bashing their skull in, not be offline for it. Perhaps a mechanic where if your client doesn't ping the server to signal it's connected, the monster pauses, but keeps the map tile loaded until you log back on to continue the fight. Should other people join combat with it afterwards, it just gets even angrier, an enrage of sorts, to prevent people logging off to save themselves. The wishpoosh could also forefeit any important loot, hide and all should it be tampered with by other parties while the initial attacker/attacking group goes offline.
Let's say it'd work something like ... if the server gets a log out message, the critter keeps going, since it's clearly a player choice or legit error. If it's a total interruption of response from the client, it pauses with the aforementioned preventive measures against sploitashun. You also have a nice bunch of skilled beta testers with much better sploiting instincts that could help advise you on how to patch any and all loopholes in such a mechanic should your thirst for tears be sufficiently quenched at this point so that you consider fixing offline deaths.
