The issue was never about the horse crashing him, but rather about the horse sitting its lazy ass in the exact same location it was when the person logged out / got disconnected. As if without any actual players in the area it doesn't have any incentive to move away, and thus let a person log back on in the same location. While speaking from past experience is sometimes helpful, could a dev test this more extensively when they have some time? I'd suggest going to a place on the map where nobody else is nearby to keep the area loaded, then pull the plug or reset their network adapter or simulate a disconnect as best they can.
