Not far enough, try going west for better results. May still take a while though.

Darkness occurs in a circle, so if you travel from your base directly away form Boston, you are taking the shortest path to it. However, if you are only 3 hours from Boston, it's going to be a long trip. Darkness is about 10 hours from Boston depending on your traveling speed and how many favorable rivers you come across (assuming you have a canoe).

I`m 3 hours south of Boston, travelled round 2 more south and now around 3 straigt west on running speed. I`m currently passing huuuge rock formation, for last 15 minutes didnt seen anything but stone on fully zoomed out map but no darkness. Will pass this and proly get back to HS to pick cannoe and give it another shot...B(

A sure fire way to hit darkness is to take your canoe out of boston, go out a good distance from the shore, and have your forward button pressed foward going south. Check on it every hour and eventually you'll hit the edge of the map. Go on shore and head west and you'll hit darkness almost instantly if you're on the edge of the map.

Eh ... last i checked canoes stop after a few seconds if navigating using direction keys? Might be I'm missing something though, I'm not much of a sailor.

Oh right, well auto clicker set just to the direct south works, if you don't have anything against that. Or a program that presses down for 3 seconds, releases, then starts over.

Either way some way to keep your guy moving south in a canoe is easiest way I think.

4th day of travelling... 6 hours at least daily, if not more, direction W-SW. I`m welcomed into lumber-woods by system and my humours falling .1 per minute. Any idea how far i can be from darkness?
