I"m at 23 on everything and I'm having a really hard time finding food that is good for phlegm. Blah.

I haven't given up though. lol. I will say, however, that berry salad has been a godsend, but after a few more increases, it won't work as well. lol

You have to understand a very easy and important principle.

http://www.salem-wiki.com/mediawiki/ind ... ony_Values

Here on this page you have various food recipes. You can also note that there is a "variable food" category. Which means that to craft those, it'll ask for "Any [food category]" plus other component.
Let's say that I want a rabbit in the cabbage. It'll ask for some rabbit, a carrot, and "Any cabbage". From that, I know (thanks to that little pearl) that colewort gives BB, Green cabbage YB, white cabbage Blood, and red cabbage phlegm.
So basically if I want it to give me more phlegm I take red cabbage and ggwp.

From that... You take your receipes, you check what asks for "Any stuff" as a first item, and have fun. Because yeah, that's fun to cook :D

I did the smoked meat trick but the only reason I could do that was because I had a village mate that could hunt bears (well if he tried really hard) and had good butchering skills so when he did manage to take one down it would last a while, and in exchange I would smoke it all and split it between us.

But unless he has someone willing to hunt bear/deer for him (and where do you expect him to find freaking 80 purity at 20 biles?) that won't work. Not even taking into account the fact that he probably doesn't have access to smoked meat skill (pretty difficult) and the iron needed to smoke them en bulk.

Smoked meat is really only good early on if you have a village to feed you (or have it set up from another toon)

This actually reminds me that I have to update the Gluttony page to give newbie/lowbie tips, so give me till tomorrow, and you can go here: http://www.salem-wiki.com/mediawiki/ind ... e=Gluttony

In the meantime, go here: http://www.salem-wiki.com/mediawiki/ind ... title=Food

Go down to the Special Food table and sort by Phlegm Max or whatever you need to increase, and you should be able to find some good newbie foods in that category.

Slightly more advanced is the Variable Gluttony table in the middle. Just sort by Gluttony Max because base values for all those foods are the same. You change the overall values by which ingredient you use and Cheena was saying. You can use the Variable Food table she linked, and every variable food page has a table below showing that particular food's final values based on ingredient.

For a new player, the easiest ingredients are any of the berries, any of the mushrooms, though watch for those you have to boil, any of the nuts, any bugs, oatmeal for Blood, crab, wild turkey, or rabbit for Phlegm, oyster, yellow corn, colewort, autumn gold, or wild turkey for Black Bile, and if you can make a fish trap, you can get most of the fish types and also crawdads from any river.
