It is? Last time I heared doctors were not completely sure how the few patients have been cured, since they were trying many different methods at the same time. Do you think that when there is a real outbreak and thousands of people get infected it will be feasible to isolate and cure all of those? As for the drugs - so far we have only experimental drugs - have they been properly tested and do we know all of their side effects?

If two medical professionals get Ebola for every one patient, and the mortality rate is about 50% even with high tech treatment, I don't call that remarkable, I call that grim.Jackxter wrote:since many from Texas are so worried about the contagion spreading, how about we ban all air flight from Texas? You don't seem to have any concept of what the word 'quarantine' means. Both I and Darwoth are of the opinion that travelers from the areas where this disease is running rampant should undergo a 21 day quarantine when they arrive. That is the only real way of being sure it doesn't spread as merely checking for fever or asking a few questions doesn't work, as we've seen. Yes, a few idiots might try to sneak around by some circuitous route, but we can only hope, really, when it comes to deliberate spreading of disease.Jackxter wrote:You know, for the longest time I've been trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I ask you this in all honesty: are you an idiot?
Maybe Darwoth is responding combatively because not only are your strawman arguments annoying, your general **** flinging while pretending to be reasonable are calculated to anger anyone who really does think logically.
From what I've seen, there's been a good deal of incompetence in dealing with Ebola in the US and there's a good chance it could spread. People who were sick were traveling, coming into contact with others, possibly spreading the virus. 21 days have not passed since Vinson flew twice on a plane and then tested positive. Ebola may not be exactly airborne, and may not trigger a cough or sneeze reflex, but it certainly will spread that way if you are already coughing and sneezing and guess what? It's the middle of Ragweed season.
A quarantine is used to separate and restrict the movement of persons; it is a 'state of enforced isolation'. This is often used in connection to disease and illness, such as those who may possibly have been exposed to a communicable disease.
