half the security issues I clean up is due to this kind of programs found willy nilly online. There might very well be some legit ones among them. But I for one will never ever find out.

True, a program from a guy that auto download stuff into my computer? Nice try. GGWP.

Combofix in itself is legit, it's just not an antivirus really, it's more of a spyware removal tool. A mix of Spybot S&D and your average free antivirus for an active shield will do the trick imo. Spybot for the occasional scan and the AV for catching threats on the fly. And for the record AVG catches its fair share of infections off of compromised sites and so on (has caught such things on everyone of my webcomics that got cooties), but I guess each antivirus works differently with each system, different optimization and such. I'll admit that it's clunky sometimes, though.
