Just look at it from our perspective.
Option 1) Annoyed person logged out under some object (or got logged out while the server crashed) and lost his inventory because of it, misread the message and complained on the forum to get the items back.
Option 2) The original game developper is lieing in an elaborate scheme to cover up some freak bug, which never happened before, because... no reason in particular.
But by all means, keep insisting, sounds like a great way to get a dunce cap.
Losing an inventory sucks, but it happens.
1) I've lost my inventory several times. Annoyed? Sure. but I knew why? Yep. This time, did I log out? Nope. I was starting a fire (located directly beside claimstone), and then all of a sudden, all animations stop -- on both characters. I click here and there -- nothing. I close out the clients (thinking perhaps it was Java that crased (no java error message occurred) ). I open them back up, sign-in, and get "could not connect to server" message.
So I go twiddle my thumbs for 30 minutes or so. I come back and I log in on my alt account first -- it went right in. I then sign into my main account. . . message pops up. The server did not log my last location. Due to this reason, it informs me I must spawn my character at my homestead and lose all of my inventory. It asks if I want to proceed. . . I click 'no'. . . keep in mind. . . this is on the "character selection" screen, not in the game at all. . . After clicking 'no', the message goes away and I am still looking at the character selection screen (I thought perhaps it would figure out where I was at if I clicked 'no'.) That didn't help, so I click play under my main character, and the same message comes up. . . still in the character selection screen. . . This time I click 'yes'. I then find myself one or two tiles away from where I was when the server crapped out, and lo'n'behold. . . no inventory. . . nothin'.
2) I don't think the developer is lying, I just think he's ignorant -- in the literal sense, not the derogatory sense. I know what I read and I know what happened. No items were found at the gate, at the fireplace, nor at the claimstone. So to all the others suggesting that's what happened -- it didn't.
Also, I'd like to point out that I wasn't actually annoyed until people started calling me a liar. I was merely curious. At this stage in the game, I don't really have anything worth getting upset over. But a bug like this is definitely a problem for the devs and the game. If they want to play 'derps' and do nothing, then when it happens to someone with some real items in his/her inventory, then they can't come back and say "b-b-but we didn't know".

The players who have been more than helpful answering your questions, as well as Loftar who is all-knowing, are correct on this matter. Further pressing of this magical error message that you saw, which doesn't exist, will earn you a semi-unique in-game hat.
Apparently it does. . . I'd like to think it wouldn't, but it did and I lost my stuff because of it. I don't care about the stuff, but y'all need to look into it before someone really gets butthurt about it. Funny how programmers always think their code is infallible, pure, and perfect. Too bad that's almost an impossibility. It happened, so quit trying to deny something is wrong with the server. Server crashes and you expect us to believe there's no possible way the server will lose track of some of the things in it? LOL. Funny man.
