Logs: The Bane of my existence.

Postby Necromateur » Tue Sep 30, 2014 1:00 am

In the beginning, logs were fantastic. Aside from weaving a bunch of fat baskets, I could easily throw them on my sled, dump my wares via log into my campsite and all was well in the world. . . until sh*t started piling up that is.

After contemplation over the construction of a maze, I decided against it. The walking controls seem too wonky for that to be any fun. Now, my campsite looks like heLL. I'm constantly moving things out of the way, searching through 10+ logs, 6+ baskets, and now that I can make them, 10+ wooden boxes. Oh dear heavens when will it all end?

I want to just burn them. Yes, just throw the suckers in a pile and light a bonfire. I'll place a savage charm around my fat lil' neck and dance around the fire screaming "wohp, wohp, wohp" until the devs kill me off, the natives get sick of me butchering their culture, or I get tired of it personally and log off. That's what I want. But, as far as I can tell, it's not going to happen.

It looks like I'm going to be building 40+ boxes (then having them get in the way of everything) whilst trying to organize my things into something that 'might' be considered clean.

Any pointers? Any way to get rid of logs easily (aside from lifting and carrying off/chopping to death)? Is there a skill that will allow me to construct bigger and better containers for storage so I don't have 1000 boxes, baskets, and logs strewn about?

Oh do help me. I promise to never drop a log again (pun intended).

Please add your ways of organizing, and perhaps post pictures of examples. Ask my wife -- I suck at organization. :)

Just what is it that you are storing in all these boxes and logs? By now, if you have accumulated that much stuff, you should have the Coffermaking skill to be able to make Chests. Chests are a bit bigger, or at least a bit more organized since you can keep a larger number of things in a single place.

Use your logs for woodblocks, you'll use them all eventually. Until then, take all the things out of them, and stack them to the side. Line your boxes and chests up in rows and above all, Stop Hording. If you don't even have coffermaking yet, then two boxes on inspirationals is too much, you should be using them faster than that. If you have more than a box of meat from one animal, stop hunting that animal or at least don't keep it's meat, you don't need it. You don't need more than a couple woodchips for emergency tinder use, you should be able to keep all the tools you'll ever need in a single box. Don't hoard iron, put it into braziers or don't bother smelting. Etc.

Thank you!

I will do just that. Coffeemaking? What does that skill branch from? I've only been playing for 3 days, so I don't know. lol

You could have an ongoing spin off of "Hoarders" focused exclusively on players of this game. But yeah, we do have to try and make an intervention

Crates are still my favorite storage for common use boxes. Being able to spot at a glance what is/isnt full is great for those.

I like urns for storage that's less commonly accessed. They are very compact and hold a good amount of stuff.

That's a great point, actually (about the urns). I do like the wooden boxes for their 'visual' aid when determining how many items are in it.
