Remove logging out with items. Introduce bed.

IRL, I don't wanna sleep holding a fish, with an ax on my belt, graphing a wooden plank, stuffing my pockets with some mushroom, etc. etc. Therefore I don't think it's good for my beloved toons in Salem.

We can remove logging out with items like this:
Every newbie leanto starts with a spruce bed. when you log out, you need the bed. It holds 16 items at once, and when you click log out, the bed's inventory appear so you can empty all items you are having. after you're completely free from stuff, you will be logged out, else you won't be allowed. Better bed give you more space, up to the largest item slots possible (36?).
Everybody can come to your house, commit a crime to steal things in your bed.
The storage can be a small desk near your bed, a pillow-look-alike thing, or whatever. You choose i dont wanna choose.
maybe you can keep your purse with you, i don't know. I just don't think you want to sleep with a fish. no.

While I think everyone can get behind something that kills alt-vaulting, storing the items in the bed itself seems less secure then placing them in a locked chest. So I don't believe anyone with a base would use the bed to store anything, making the 'higher' beds useless.

Higher beds (using lots of oiled boards, cotton sheets and feather stuffed pillows) need to give you something more, my though was a bonus to inspiration gain when offline as that's really the only thing happening to your character when it's offline. If the sheets on the bead wear out over time then it is essentially no different then gulping potions for inspiration as your converting materials into inspiration.

The way I think about bed is that it should be hard to steal from. Ridiculously hard, so you can still have relatively safe place to put the items without them being unavailable to the thief. I don't like alt-vaulting, but I don't want my stuff to vanish easily.so maybe...
1. hard to steal bed lockers available only when you sleep on it. so you can't make bed just to keep stuff.
2. even if you spam alts to keep stuff safe by putting them to sleep on the beds, people can still possibly break said method by stealing from those beds. better than your items completely vanish with your alts while they are offline.

I think your just back to alt-vaulting, but we call them 'Sleeper vaults' now and they require some building materials to make.

The bed itself doesn't need to be hard to steal from.

If you have walls and braziers around your house then that's quite a bit of security already.
