I know dev's stance on permadeath, but he also promised insurance policies. Personally I think a 25% stats punishment will discourage less players from quitting after getting raided. But what do I know...the opinions of new comers are irrelevant from the looks of it, in idea and innovation section.

If you have a good idea it'll be received well, if it's a stupid idea it won't.

This is a permadeath game, if your "idea" is removing permadeath you will get laughed at.

Post count doesn't mean anything. Don't make stupid ideas like removing permadeath lol. Don't make ideas without knowing something about the subject like the recent pvp discussion where someone didn't know how guns worked.....at all.

Right, it's just I happen to to be an old player from when salem was announced, I am also wondering the decision was wise given what has happened. (server cap never went up to 10k) Sure permadeath makes the flavor of the game, everyone takes things seriously, it's wonderful. But the same stress may caused majority of which that have lost character leaving the game.

Given these circumstances, would you take this game to a direction where losses are more acceptable or would this always be a niche game in the market with less than couple thousand players.

Steps have already been taken to make recovery after char loss easier.

Population has been on a steady rise since we took over.

The 'Players have spoke' argument always entertains me though. The integrity of Salem's niche is not for sale to the masses.

I can't speak for JC, but from everything I have read this game is not intended to be the a huge hit. This game is not a business venture for him, but a passion brought to life. He wants to make this game as awesome and popular as he can, but he completely understands this game will never be at the top of charts. As long as he make the game worthwhile for a group of dedicated players, the profits from those players will pay the bills. I'm sure he hopes to make a profit from this game (who wouldn't) but the main point for him is the opportunity to create a unique game. A crafting MMO intertwined with PVP and permadeath is unique (besides maybe H&H), but if you remove PVP and permadeath, what do you have? Just another crafting game.
EDIT speak his name and he appears ¦]

Ah, then it all makes sense. I hope in the future the new players would have opportunity getting told that this game is not intended for masses. Though thanks for the hardwork you have already done. Hats to you! and thanks for the respond/clarification.

Permadeath is not a good thing when it is too easy to be killed. Removing it fully is likely the wrong approach also.

The answer some of which may already be happening in future patches, is better ways to defend yourself and a legacy system where a new character (son/daughter of the deceased) retains a proportion of the skills and biles lost. i also would like to see some extra benefit for people who lead a good life over a bad life. buff's for those who are good (more defense from death and better legacy) and for the criminals a debuff (less defense from death, scents is already on this path and a poorer legacy for any offsrping.)
