Reverse tears

Postby nonsonogiucas » Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:14 pm

Was taking a look at this video about the blue shell.

In short:
Blue shell in mario cart is a homing missile that spawns very frequently if you are far behind, almost never if you are 1st or 2nd. It targets specifically the 1st and often hits the 2nd too with its blast.

It causes tears to players that are far ahead but in the end is a good feature because:

Makes the game more "close". Instead of having the best players so far ahead you can't catch them unless they make a mistake, the blue shell artificially stops them so that they have to join again the competition (also removing 1st position boredom). Player in 1st position still have a chance to avoid the effect but it is usually through a very difficult stunt.

Do the guns and muskets, with their % based damage, qualify as a "blue shell" feature?
Are there more / better ways of implementing blue shells in Salem?
I was lucky...

Situation: You're losing a game.
Option a: Practise, rethink and/or otherwise improve your gameplay.
Option b: Expect the game to change to make it harder to lose.

Anyone who choses option b is playing the wrong game.

To which idea are you referring to?
The idea to put in mario cart a feature that is already there, or the idea of considering it similar to a change MM already did in how guns and muskets work?

You missed the point by a long shot.

Guns do not aid the losing party like the shell in your story.

Anyone, both established/feared/powerful factions and noobs can use guns equally. To consider them a feature aimed purely at giving the groups that fall behind an advantage is simply wrong.

There should be an option to remove weaker opponents from the game. Like bringing falsified charges against them in a court. It would be a good change so advanced players don't have to keep weaker ones under their thumb,

The devs have already stated that there are / will be two main mechanics to prevent the established factions from being dominant permanently.

1: Guns. I believe the muskets deal a percentage damage. Even someone with 999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 blood can be dropped by a few noobs with guns scoring a bunch of good hits.
This makes EVERY half decently equipped group dangerous for even the most powerful characters.

2: The devs have stated they want Safety to be non-existant in Salem. Everyone should be raidable. This is not yet implemented so details aren't available but going by the spirit of what the devs have said so far it means even the most powerful can be raided by other groups so building characters up to incredible power just to be "invincible" could simply be ended by a summon kill.

In short, assuming the devs can implement these ideas properly, there will be little point in spending months to grind out extreme stat characters for raiding.

This.

Please allow me to point out that you don't seem to be agreeing with yourself on this one.
