Can't play, get kicked.

Postby Lusewing » Sun Aug 24, 2014 12:42 am

OK I have the same problem with both Salem and Haven and Hearth and I am really hoping someone can help.

Game loads fine. I log in and I can see all the bars, map and hear sounds. The rest of the screen however is black with 'loading' typed in the middle. Then after about 10-15 seconds (shorter if I try and move or do anything) the game kicks me back to the log in screen (Im also still logged in until the game logs me out).

The same thing happens in Haven (except the screen is not black) but i have managed to get around it by staying in a building for about a minuet, going outside for a short time and then returning back to the house. I do this a few times for about 5 min and then the game runs as sweet as a button till the next time i need to log in.

I know it is not my hardware - my fella has the twin to my PC and both games run fine on there. It might however be damage to my hardware since it works in harsher conditions.
Standard clients and modded clients have no effect.
I have cleared and then reinstalled multipal times.
I have also tried the command prompt sugested by Lofter in one of the other threads with a simler problem.

Is there anything else I can try and do?

Sounds like internet issues. Perhaps packet loss when the game talks to the server to load up resources. Try pinging the server for a few minutes and see if there's packet loss, not sure how the devs feel about sending bigger packets though to see if that's the issue.

I think I have a friend who started playing the new world with me, but I played with him in haven and previous Salem world. He is having the same issues he keeps getting booted about every 5 minutes seems. I don't recall him having problems with other games or with haven for some reason he's always had problems with Salem, but it seems worse for him now than when he was on Salem previous world. So I suspect his internet is an issue too since he has satellite internet, but it certainly frustrating him to no end and he can't really play much. So if he's getting packet loss what can he do anyways? He tried Judaism's minimization but doesn't seem to help a lot. How much of a change would it even be to do what you suggest changing the packet sizes? I try to have him do the ping check but hes like computer illiterate so its hard to go through it with him.

Well the packet size thing is just to check if you've got packet loss while sending more data than the normal ping packet's size. If you ping and see that there are lots of timeouts, it might be that on a certain amount of consecutive timeouts the server figures you've disconnected. As for what you can do about it, I'll leave that to a dev or more tech savvy person to figure out :D If anything it'll likely be modifying your connection's settings locally to send packets that won't get separated, bigger packets or something along those lines.

If it turns out to be the timeout issue, you could probably investigate what's causing it. Either hardware faults, less than optimal connection settings, issues with your ISP's routing to the server location entirely, or just witchcraft :(

Internet connection seems likely since I am on a mobile broadband stick (I don't have a landline). I guess I will just have to wait till I get a house with my fella. Thanks for your help.

Seriously though, don't take my word for it, test it >.< I am not sure enough of my guesstimations for you to just leave it at that lol. Windows Key + R , cmd, type in "ping game.salemthegame.com -t" , leave it there for a good two minutes, then ctrl-C to end it and check % of packet loss.

For you Lusewing, I assume you've tried moving the wireless receiver in different positions in the house to see where you get the best signal. If all else fails, there should be tiny antenna extension cords to put out the window (I know I had something like that when I used to have mobile internet). But just generally look up some guides to improve connection quality at every step along the pipe.
