The discussion of animal spawns though seems more split than we thought. Given that we intend to add other animals as well we will most likely be pulling back spawns if for no other reason than to add room for the additional creatures. We will give more time for this thread to evolve and grow though so players can convince us one way or the other.

I currently like the amount of animal spawns with the amount of other stuff to do at the moment it is nice not having to spend a bunch of time out looking because you need a few rabbits, beavers or whatever you looking for. I would see the need though in the future as other animals are added to cut back on the existing or it could get to be you could not even walk less alone pull a sled or cart behind you.

If you recall, our general design philosophy was such that each profession would not only have a nice bonus for itself but also have a nice bonus in making goods for their towns and/or community. What good is there to bringing the hunter, or bringing the corpse back to the hunter if every player had the same chance to get maximum butcher results. Also in addition to this we wanted hunters to have an incentive to sell their bits and pieces of animals to the general public for what would be less value to them (given the plenty that they see them) vs. how rare they are to non-hunters.

It seems that the profession being helped here is that of the Butcher rather then the Hunter, lots of people use different characters for Butchering and Hunting.

Ya know another benefit of having a foragable 'animal track' item that point towards the animal for you is that you can actually make the animal finding process faster for higher proficiency players. You just make the foragables invisible to characters with low Hunting&Gathing proficiency and gradually reveal more of them as proficiency rises. People are still going to just walk right up to animals so newbs who can't see the tracks are not SOL, but characters that have been built to Hunt will find animals much faster by finding a track first. Naturally the ability to detect the tracks of different animals can be linked with different skills too.

Their could also be another movement type that's similar to forage, but which increases the chance of finding tracks rather then normal foragables.

The whole idea is that finding animals can be by methods other then just running through the woods until you make direct contact with a spawn, everyone is equally good at that and it's boring, with tracks as an intermediary you can fine-tune the probabilities and make Hunting feel like a real profession.

Since the increase of animal spawns I have started playing with the game's volume muted. I don't mind having so many turkeys around, but I HATE the sound they constantly give off. Also I live in the Darker Forrest Biom. I urge you to remove the sound effect unless they are attacked or something on a game mechanic basis.

I said no and there really seems to be a very low spawn of bears and rattlers.

Rattlers spawn pretty reliably in crag and badlands biomes.

I don't know if making aggressive animal spawns is the right choice. Maybe for certain biomes?
