ok i made a lock and a key for my gate my friend lives with me inside the gate and all so i tried making a key for her to but she cant open the gate what do i do

I assume you forgot to attune the key to your friend ? Left click the key so its on the mouse-cursor, then right click with the key on your friend, wait till 100% & done.
If not, did you make a slave copy of the master key, or just made a new key?

a key only appears green (tooltip text colour) to a single person, and only that person can use the key
