In no mmo game will you be as successful alone as you are with a group.
Also, saying, that you can't play casually/alone is ridiculous - everything you need is a bit of common sense.

Yes, but salem was an exception, until this new updates and the futures, honestly i'm hating this "profession" way.

I feel like grouping up would be easy if towns let new players in. Unfortunately they have too much of a liability to be spies. Would be nice if someone were to make a guide on how to protect against this for people looking to invite people in. My town has gotten rather lonely.

Salem has always been significantly easier in a group and you still do not have to play in a group or even trade with people if you really don't want to.

Get to know people and make connections. The problem people are having is they want to join a stranger's town or have strangers join theirs and this will never work. This seems like is should be obvious: you have to get to know people and then group up with them.

Right because that is such a foolproof solution. Obviously you should get to know someone before working together with them, whether or not the mechanics of the game make it easier to deal with them. Nonetheless how exactly does that make it any less of a risk? The game is literally setup to appease people with sociopathic tendencies.

Of course its not a fool proof solution, if you want a game where its impossible to be betrayed go play something else, but it will at least weed out a lot of the people that are just going to troll kill you, as very few of them will bother to spend all the time pretending to just be a friendly noob and getting to know you if they just want to kill and loot you. There will always be a risk that someone you invite is just willing to spend a lot of time going through all the motions but there is no way to prevent that. But its now like its impossible to to build trust with people how do you think all the existing groups got formed?

A very long and drawn out process involving little kiddie politics and a lot of name calling

This. Salem is a black ops program fully funded by the Swedish Government on behalf of the DOD(US).

No, it wasn't. The update changed absolutely nothing.

It took more time and effort, if playing alone, to start simultaneously producing tiered crops/clothing, iron, oiled boards and alchemical experiments, compared to that spent with a group, and it continues to be the same way.

Just join a treaty membership town, that way you get to live in a productive town that is under protection. Otherwise go out and risk your ****. Both styles of play can be fun, more so than sitting around waiting to see who raids your colewort.
