Norse Vikings called America "Vinland", pretty sure they meant "Winland", but like the most EU dwellers they couldn't spell it right.
The name is spot-on though.

That's actually quite doubtful. Places aren't named after someone's first name generally. Moreover, there's also a theory that says it was named after a merchant called Richard Amerike, who funded/sponsored a voyage from Britain to find China.
