I agree with you... item porting cannot be removed without changing how the game works, that involves changing the premises that originally allowed everyone to settle at the far corners of the world without worrying much about remaining isolated.
We must face it, everyone built his game around the mechanics he found in the game when he started... changing those mechanics will turn the table and most likely generate tears.

It's not imperfect.
It just isn't what it claims to be. It is not the solution to item porting. It is a fancy re-style of item porting. If you propose it as a re-style and a re-style is all we get, then I'm happy with it. It's a good re-style.
