Login logs aren't visible to moderators, that's admin only. All I see is date registered and last login.

I may be risking a ban here, but IP is very valuable piece of information. It can be used to:
- find real world location of poster and estimate his playing time
- find forum alts, and possibly in game alts if those can be connected
- target poster with DDOS attack

I'm not saying staxjax did any of those, however he is playing high stakes and I don't have enough trust to believe that he would never use any of these in dire (or not) situation. It's not healthy situation when in such competitive game, where people try to hide as much info about themselves as they can, mods have access to some of the info players try to hide, especially if they play high stakes and are connected to people who would gladly make use of those.

That was my last comment on this topic.

Potjeh wrote:Yeah, he can check IPs, but that's not what w were talking about at all. There is no special in-game information accessible to the mods, nor was there in H&H, it's all forum stuff.

Now quit it.

Considering this group of players has admitted to or made claims of:

Spying In-game
Spying on IIRC conversations
Spying on Vent Conversations

All for the BENEFIT of their In-Game careers and characters I"m not sure that you can simply limit an "advantage" to in-game? And advantage is an advantage and if the creators/developers/supporters of a game are allowing one (in-game or not) as long as its in their arena with their name on it then it deserves a closer look. Suppose their vent/skype/mumble whatever is more secure because Staxx can crossreference IP addresses for every player? Suppose that they have solid intel that communication was passed via a forum PM and they have their list of suspects narrowed down to 3? Staxx can easily check which forum account was logged in at the time.

Everybody who really knows me knows that I personally love Bait/Dallane/Staxx and a little piece of me would die if they quit/died before the time of MY choosing. But that being said I don't agree with their methods or endorse them in any way shape or form. This is beta and working out the "bugs" is what we are here for. As far as I'm concerned the current intel system and power to mods who are biased in-game is a bug so I'm glad this comes to light.

For the record my account was "accidentally" perma-banned instead of 1-day ban for a very questionable offense. Accidents happen..... But when those accidents are caused by the very players who are going through great lengths to kill you it does add to the idea of conspiracy theories etc. etc.

In the end the Chief welcomes any and all advantages the White Man needs to use to defeat him :). It just makes the victories that much sweeter.

Like I said, no login logs, just last login.

Again, if you have issues with moderation, take it to our superiors

Honestly if your going to be a major player in the actively changing political landscape of this game, you need to step down as a mod. period.

PERIOD.

Can you feel it?

It was the chief and realak's periods happening at the same time.

players should not be mods at all, inevitably you end up with the cool kids club of hall monitors as happened with the haven forums and folks like burgingham.

and the rules should be extremely lax + not be open to interpretation for whoever the 5 dollar an hour indian call center worker is thats tasked with moderating.

Look, guys, this is not really the place to discuss this. Feel free to make a thread regarding mod privileges in I&I, where we can maintain a civil tone necessary for a productive discussion.

I would though like to point out that according to the "Forum Rules" thread there is following:

"Moderators are allowed to have the final word if there's any doubt in what is allowed, if the user is not satisfied with this, please post in this thread. (keep it clean)."

So according to that thread, that "Forum Rules" thread is also a suitable location to post if you are not satisfied, as long is it is kept "clean".

Actually it may even be recommended to post there instead of I&I, because the I&I description specifically says "Forum for suggesting changes to Salem." and the forum is arguably not a part of Salem per se.

As I am EU based I can't get in to this discussion now, so please don't go nuts tonight before I can post properly about it (just about to sleep.)

I do not want mods to have to cease playing because they are moderators, but I don't want them to have doubtful powers either.

So thanks for bringing this issue up. I will address it further tomorrow.

Keep the discussions clean tonight, that is.
I never managed to figure out something clever for my signature on Paradoxplaza, and I doubt I'll do it here either.
