AFK and auto-boot

Postby Frakked » Tue Jul 29, 2014 2:53 am

I say a post by JohnCaver dated 7-12-14 asking about the state of the game... he was quick to point out there were 200 folks online...

I wager 25% were AFK. At least 50 of them were in bed asleep... asleep at their PC... or AFK waiting for that first alchemy tick... from null is about 4 hours.

Since the new server... and increasing since John Carver took over stewardship of the game... lag, rubberbanding, crappy game performance is on the rise. I would love to blame that on increased population... but let it be ACTIVE population.

It's past time Devs started booting folks who are not in the game... whether they are catching some ZZZ's or waiting for alchemy's first tick, etc...

Why am I competing for game resources with folks who are doing something else entire...something other than Salem?

you are an idiot, going afk with a scout in game is a tactic employed for a variety of things ranging from pve to pvp to sieging not to mention a requirement of the social aspect around town, for example i would not idle at the statue the way i do if i was actually playing, i do it when im not around so i can come back and see who is talking **** or read messages people send me. perhaps you should upgrade your **** if you are having issues as the only thing that has changed on my end is more people/buildings in town which does not slow down my performance at all.

And I'd say you are the reason my game play sucks when I'm town...

Why do we need a 1x1 fix to be in Boston... if we can just get rid of folks like you who are not really there?

Devs want the game to thrive... so we need to dumb down graphics until this looks like some POS 1980's game... so the lot of us can be online 24/7/365? Extreme example... but I think it matters...

If this is what the game looks like with 200 people... what will it be like when there are 1000...or more?

I don't have a problem with people that go afk in Boston getting kicked but the server load never gets bad enough that there is a reason to kick people that are afk in their own bases or in the wild.

Besides, if the server were to have issues with 200 people on, it's not the ones being afk that are the problem.

pretty sure even the spectre of my character adds far more to the game than 500 frakked's would. however i am quite happy to discover that i am ruining your gameplay experience by merely standing afk in town, mayhaps i shall afk with two characters from now so i can be twice as effective!

the afk people have roughly zero impact on the server. It's the ones that are actively doing stuff that might matter. Sure, they might impact your client badly when they afk in boston, but I'll side with darwoth here: it's often fun/informational to know what people are saying in boston. Same reason as anyone is ever in the irc channel: sometimes, like once every couple of days, something important is mentioned.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Why do you want to play on your Nokia N-Gage? I run two clients and three bots all on max graphics with a texture mod that increases the load. This is your problem, not Salem's.

Only bad performance I have is after teleporting or relogging 12 times.

Something is just not right with the client !

Yea the client doesn't seem to like switching chars or teleporting much.

The server does have lag spikes every now and then though. The status page shows it bouncing to 50% or even 150%+ load during those.
