Horse improvement

Postby alloin » Tue Jul 22, 2014 5:49 pm

Could horses not be spawned in the inventory when bought ? Give them a 1 time use, just like we buy a chair or table from the npc.

Why ?

This way we could buy 10 horses, and if we have to swim across water or climb a mountain, we just spawn a new horse & leave the old one behind.
This way people can take a horse to their base and start discovering the world from there (for me its impossible to walk a horse to my base for example :s)

would be an awesome addition until the husbandry patch brings all new features !

We were originally going to have them work like this, but in the ended we decided we didn't like you carrying horses in your backpacks!

How about giving horses (for now) a chance to attempt passage in some impassable terrain, with very unfavourable odds of survival. Imagine a pilgrim really keen on settling far away from people that have qualms with him, he'd work that horse like crazy, make it swim across deep rivers at the horse's peril, make it jump down small cliffs or even attempt to drag it up cliffs with a rope. Of course the horse might die of fatigue in the river, drown, perhaps break its leg down a cliff, or the idiot pilgrim might choke the horse to death up a cliff with the mandatory rope. Either way it'd be nice to either be able to construct a world where such a means of travel is viable for the entire map, or to put in extra effort or extra risk to take horses the extra mile.

Maybe you could instead just give people the option to have their horses spawn at their homestead.

Or maybe do as Lach said but instead of the horse dieing, it could boot you off while you are climbing dangerous areas, and you take a random number of damage (Damage done to your blood.)

Better horses will be introduced with Animal Husbandry. To remind you, these horses are simply for getting from town to another base and/or friends establishment. They are not meant for keeping around your own homestead or using a particular homestead or point in the world as a starting place.

Animal Husbandry is a long way off and you not meaning for horses to be kept around our homesteads does not stop everyone from keeping them around anyway. You should just make horses a fully implemented thing, even if we still have to buy them, or just get rid of them.

For me animals should have a more lively thingy like, turkeys , you put them in a Turkey Coop like you would put bread in the oven :D

It would be more immersive to have a fenced area ( or a structure look like that ) 2x2 for example and turkeys in there ( the turkeys already have their models right ? )

the thing with horses not reaching everywhere could be resolved by building a stable perhaps ? and domesticating horses, thus there wouldn't be "spawning" witch feels unnatural.

you could also assign horses to pulling carts, witch are large and have 8 carriables

I would also like to see some sheep, cows etc. could be essential to food products and make meat also a producible resource , not only hunting

That has been stated as planned for the Animal Husbandry patch the question is what to do with them until then.
