Item exchange system

Postby GioPoly » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:18 pm

I think is essential for many reasons.

What do people do now? I guess create a second account, have an alt in Boston and use him as the middle man between toons of the same acc, or simply have different accounts and meet in Boston.
Well, if the server reaches enough population there won't be enough free barrels in Boston at some point. Not to mention the lag that at least I am already having...

Wouldn't it be better to simplify things ? with a mail system for example, ppl could build a mailbox ( like we now have signs ) and receive stuff there, items could be stored in the mailbox and pick it up from there.

this could be unlockable by a skill, like Literacy idk.

And I do not think it is immersion breaking , fast traveling to boston is more immersion breaking imo.

it would certainly make things more simple for something it is already going on right ? I don't know if it has been suggested before, sorry if it has.

Or I could put a 1 hour timer on port to Providence. Problem solved.

Mass transit through town is ugly. The solution is to give players better options. Mail could work, if it takes several days IRL for items to go from point A to point B. Unfortunately, we would also need some random spawns in the wilderness that are carrying your mail so that it could then be stolen as well or you would just use mailing things back and forth for alt-vaulting.

People are alt-vaulting now, aren't they ? I'm just saying make it easier  ( it would help with the lag thing )

and if there was a chance to have items stolen, nobody would use it i think. And why use it if it takes several days when u can instantly go to Boston and give it to an alt ?

Edit: maybe disable fast travel and keep things tottally primitive

No. II: Mail could work, if it takes several days IRL for items to go from point A to point B. Unfortunately, we would also need some random spawns in the wilderness that are carrying your mail so that it could then be stolen...

No. III: ...as well or you would just use mailing things back and forth for alt-vaulting.

No. I: The implementation thereof a timer on how often you may port to town is an excellent idea. For the sake of the challenge you should make it a twenty-four hour regeneration. Putting a timer on how often one may port to their homestead, more so than current, would also be advisable.

No. II: Not very advisable to implement a mail system in that form and manner. The wilderness is massive, but would still be cluttered with that amount of NPCs walking to and fro the Capitol as-well-as player operated areas. You would be better off investing time into making it where players may build bridges over rivers, expand roads, and the usage thereof carriages to transport goods. Trade and economics is a player thing. In a game where players build the trad, they should also have to invest into the roads said trade goes upon. That is unless you see a coin-sink within mail.

No. III: Limiting the amount of characters per-account would be a quick remedy. May it be ten or twenty-five characters per account. Alt-vaulting, even without the theory of safety mail, is still a problem, and still would be with unsafe mail.

You might want to consider having players the ability to send messages to people via mail though. No items attached of course. You could even make it a coin sink if they wanted the message sent directly via carrier pigeon or mystical folk-tale birds.

having a series of "pony express" type outlets that mail got routed through and thus could be intercepted/stolen would be a fun mechanic, maybe mail travels in a stagecoach with some stout guards?

Nothing will make me happier than the tears from the morning where everybody who bug-abused the persistence of items in this world finds out that all their beloved stuff on Alt-vaults are now accessible to the masses.

Alt vault @ your own risk. It is not supported or endorsed in any way and most certainly won't be here at launch.

1 toon per account.

sure you can still make 25 email addresses and 25 accounts but tears is the joy of making one to do this.

24 hour timers on boston travel, or eliminate boston fast travel all together.

24 hour timer on someone porting to your claim with HS.

-----

Moar tears here.

Can't log out with items in your inventory

Even Moar tears.

If you just close the game in boston or your town, claim your inventory DUMPS since you cant log out with items. <-- I like this one :)

Items dropping on logout is a terrible idea.
Client crashes are not a rare thing for me, and I'm sure others have this issue too, it'd be ridiculous to constantly have to pick everything back up and lose certain items that don't even go on the ground. Not to mention crashing while in a canoe or shallow water.

Same thing goes for teleports to boston. It's needed for selling stuff and trading right now.

Sure, stopping alt vaults is a good thing, but doing it in a way that ***** over players who play normally is a great way to lose said players.

No no, tears of those abusing alt vaults are great.
The rest of the population however..
There won't be many tears to be had if Salem has no players.
