Frequently this is a firewall/security issue. You can check software by disabling any software antivirus or firewall software on your system or adding exceptions for Java/Salem using ports TCP 1871 and UDP 1870. For hardware, such as a router or hardware firewall, you'll need to do this according to documentation. If you're accessing a public or shared network (such as a school or work system), you may need to talk to the system administrator.

You could just be getting a bad connection to the server causing it to disconnect. You can use ping and tracert to check your connection. Very long times, dropped packets, or no report of times on a route can indicate a problem. If you don't know how to use these, on Windows, open a command line prompt (Start>Run... cmd.exe), at the prompt type "ping plymouth.seatribe.se". You can copy/paste this here. For a trace, type "tracert plymouth.seatribe.se". You'll get a listing of servers between your computer and the target along with some other information. Copy/paste that here. (Depending on the version of Windows, you can drag and drop or will need to ctrl+c to copy or open the window menu and select copy to clipboard.)
