Combat minigame.

Postby Feone » Mon Jun 16, 2014 4:35 pm

As the title says. I think it'd be nice to have a combat minigame available where players can fight eachother on equal characters without risking their actual character.

Why?
As a way to practise PVP.
I think in general PVP would be more common if more players had some confidence in their abilities. Hermits have few to none options for practise, for all others the options are limitted and risky (leaving scents etc.).
Right now running away is the best reaction, because most players just don't know how to fight. A bit of practise could change that.

I suppose some form of betting on matches could be added to make things more interesting.

It would take a very long time to get a real life person I know to raise a character capable of practising.
Plus, this person would most likely suck just as bad.

Practising with anyone from the game means you'll likely just end up murdered, as building trust within the game is difficult to impossible. Not to mention you'd have to show them your location, which is also risky. As practising near boston is suicide (and would reveal the location trough scents anyway.)

Why do we need combat in Salem at all? It's not realistic to have people fighting with swords during colonial times. Also the murder rate in actual Plymouth was very low because they had strict gun control lows and not even the police were allowed to carry them.

I think we should have a background check in Boston before you can buy a pistol or a musket. It should take a RL week and if your character has committed any crimes then you shouldn't be able to buy one. That would make the game more fun for noobies.

Anyhow combat is unrealistic and should be taken out and it will make Salem a better game for new players. +1 if you agree!!! :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Getting someone trustworthy in this game? Yes, let me just get on my unicorn and ride to the magical land of trustworthy salem characters.

Even if, by chance, you were to find a player ingame whom you can trust there is still the issue of distance. Walking for hours for a practise match? To get any sort of half decent at pvp you'd have to practise pretty frequently.

I don't see the harm in allowing players to practise, it would increase the chances of actual pvp happening. A little confidence in pvp abilities goes a long way.

I actually think that having some sort of "Pugilists Club" in Boston where you are allowed to fight in a controlled area while being unable to murder each other or leave scents would be a really good idea.

Another way to achieve this would be a "Duel Agreement" mechanic. You could invite people to Duel, when everyone agrees the characters involved can attack each other without leaving scents while being unable to murder each other for a specific amount of time "after" the duel is finished (to prevent murder right after the duel). Also a stunned character would not respawn at hs or Boston but simply stand up again after the duel with its humors at 5 or 10%.

+1

Its called a town and you hold tournaments and place bets on the fighters. Make friends in this game.

The boston club is going to label your character and what humors you currently have. I don't think you guys understand the danger of too much information in this game.

Having the duel option that will stop the fight at 5hp or something would be nice.No KO and no scents so you can practice with friends in the town you are in worry free of summons.

Some random people knowing the stats of my char bothers me a lot less than having to give out my location and trusting other players with the safety of my character and possibly town.
